Campus Police Dispatcher
Position Summary
The Campus Police Dispatcher, supports the JCCC mission by ensuring the safety and security of the campus community through the rapid, accurate management of emergency communications and surveillance resources. This role is responsible for the critical triage of incidents, the coordination of field personnel, and the maintenance of operational compliance with federal and state safety mandates.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 1+ year of related experience.
- Must become NCIC, NIMS (National Incident Management System), and ICS certified.
Position details include but are not limited to:
Emergency Dispatch & Incident Management:
- Answer and process call to determine the appropriate level of service needed and allocate personnel/resources with public and officer safety in mind.
- Initiate calls for campus fire and emergency medical services (EMS).
- Provide clear, concise verbal directions quickly to Officers and the public, detailing the nature, location, and priority of the issue.
- Use police radio systems, computer-aided dispatch (CAD), and emergency notification systems effectively.
- Utilize Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Databases.
Technical Systems & Surveillance Operations:
- Operate card access/door control systems and CCTV equipment for emergency response and officer support.
- Maintain operational knowledge of telephone systems, radio broadcast equipment, and related emergency hardware.
Crisis Communication & De-escalation:
- Effectively communicate with difficult callers, including those who are emotionally upset, abusive, non-English speaking, intoxicated, or experiencing mental health crises.
- Maintain professional composure while translating chaotic information into clear, actionable intelligence for field units.
Public Relations & Community Resource:
- Serve as the customer service liaison for the Police Department, handling inquiries and complaints with a courteous and helpful manner.
- Assist students, employees, and visitors with crime prevention information, victim assistance, lost and found, and general reporting procedures.
- Process the intake, documentation, and return of lost and found property.
Records, Compliance & Professional Development:
- Maintain detailed and accurate logs of all phone calls, radio traffic, and dispatched units. Work with the Clery Act Officer, Title IX Team, and Emergency Preparedness Manager to ensure campus-wide compliance.
- Complete all required annual training and professional certifications to maintain operational readiness.
