Campus Safety Officer

ABOUT WILLAMETTE UNIVERSITY:

Willamette University, founded in 1842, is a nationally-renowned private university enrolling 2800 students across five colleges. Our historic campus, adjacent to the Oregon State Capitol, hosts a distinguished undergraduate liberal arts college in Salem, Oregon. Our downtown Portland campus is home to the Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA).

POSITION SUMMARY

Campus Safety Officers are responsible for helping ensure the safety and security of Willamette University's students, employees, visitors, and property during their assigned shifts. They deal with all violations of law and campus policy in an appropriate and equitable manner and positively engage with diverse individuals and groups in support of an inclusive environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Patrol university grounds and facilities to ensure a safe and secure environment, including on foot and in vehicles.
• Monitor all activity and confront any suspicious behavior on Campus.
• Escort visitors and intruders off campus if required.
• Issue citations and warnings to violators.
• Interview individuals involved in incidents, gather information and write reports on crimes, violence, vandalism, fires, and other illegal activities on campus.
• Respond quickly to all calls to Campus Safety for assistance and contact local Police, Fire, or Medical personnel when necessary.
• Provides medical care at the basic first aid/CPR/AED level.
• Responds to notifications from the security and fire alarms across campus.
• Updates daily activity logs and completes written incident and investigative reports.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must meet minimum criteria for certification by the Board on Public Safety Standards and Training.
• Minimum of two years experience in a security position or two years of college-level law enforcement or criminal justice courses.
• Ability to operate a computer with demonstrated skills in Outlook, Word, Excel.
• Valid driver's license within 60 days of hire.
• CPR/AED Certification or obtain within 90 days of employment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience working with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Customer service experience.
• Experience working in a security-related field.
• Experience working at a college or university.

Salary: $23.93/hour
