Position Summary

Rutgers University-Camden is seeking a Career Management Specialist. Reporting to the Assistant Director for the Career Advancement Center, a department focused on helping students develop career goals and skills from their first year through graduation and beyond, the Career Management Specialist will play an essential role in supporting our mission to enhance post-graduate options, with a focus on pre-professional professions. As the coach for our pre-professional studies initiatives, the career management specialist will provide targeted outreach and support, programming, and initiatives for all undergraduate students to raise awareness about Rutgers-Camden graduate programs, assist with post-graduation planning, and support graduate school selection and application. This position will be responsible for developing and implementing cohort experiences for these target populations to ensure undergraduate students interested in prestigious, professional, or health-related graduate schools/programs have the resources and support they need to be competitive in their applications. Additionally, this position will provide one-to-one coaching to students and alumni on complex career issues and individual career development plans, which may include academic major and career decisions, resume and cover letter critiques, job search correspondence, interview practice, and career readiness. Performs student engagement initiatives; responsible for creating, implementing, and executing seminars, classroom presentations, programs, and events that strengthen student career readiness. This position will be responsible for designing and executing relevant programming, building community among cohorts, and providing holistic coaching and advisement, including making appropriate referrals. The incumbent shares responsibility for collecting data for events, appointments, and other key metrics and contributing to regular reports, developing systems to identify and track students who plan to attend graduate professional programs.

As a member of the Division for Student Academic Success, the career management specialist will be expected to support the office and our larger division with all retention initiatives, including campus-wide programming for new and continuing students, recruitment, and coaching. This position will also collaborate with other academic schools and units across the campus and university, with a focus on building strong partnerships with student organizations and faculty supporters. We seek a highly motivated and organized individual who is committed to engaging students with curiosity and compassion and who shares our mission of providing equitable access to opportunities and resources that will equip students for success now and in the long term, thereby improving their outcomes and better equipping them for lifelong success.

Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a bachelor's degree in counseling, educational psychology, social work, human resources or a related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience, plus a minimum of two years of experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of career counseling theories and methodologies for individuals and groups.

Equipment Utilized

This position requires excellent technical skills with the knowledge of Microsoft Office platforms, career development software, and knowledge of other online assessments, including the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers-Briggs online assessments. Incumbent will become familiar and comfortable with using all facets of the Handshake System.

Salary

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, within university policy and salary schedules, as well as departmental budgets.
