The Career Navigator (Career Coach) provides career coaching and educational programming for students on a broad range of career development topics. This role collaborates strategically with academic departments and programs to support student success. In partnership with fellow career navigators/coaches, the Career Navigator helps design, promote, and implement key career development initiatives, including the True North Journey (CSB+SJU's signature four-year experience, particularly in the areas of mentorship and real-world learning). This position empowers students to connect their aspirations with real-world opportunities and translate the value of their liberal arts education into meaningful personal and professional outcomes. The Career Navigator will help students explore, do, reflect, and connect.

The posted wage represents CSB and SJU's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.
Career Navigating (70%)
- Connect students and alums to opportunities allowing them to explore interests, strengths, values, and skills related to academic major(s) and career choices.
- Assist students in individual appointments and group settings (i.e. class presentations and workshops), supporting each stage of their career development journey.
- Guide students in identifying future goals and envisioning possible career directions.
- Link students with resources that support informed decision-making about careers and academic choices.
- Direct students to experiential opportunities such as job shadows, internships, community-engaged learning, and fellowships.
- Facilitate student reflection and articulation of their purpose, fostering meaning-making and connection to future goals.
- Use assessment tools to invite students to reflect on who they are and how that connects to future decisions.
- Coach students in understanding and articulating the value of a CSB+SJU liberal arts education.
- Partner with career navigator team to create educational and promotional content (i.e. video, visual, and written tools and educational materials) for partners and students related to career development.
- Leverage AI-powered tools appropriately to support students' career development.
- Assist with student employee mentorship.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of department systems and access points to ensure effectiveness and student engagement.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and to stay current with trends in the field.
Institutional and Departmental Engagement (20%)
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with campus partners (ie faculty, staff, student clubs/organizations).
- Work in alignment with designated academic navigators and faculty advisors to support students in a specific area of academic interest.
- Provide training to external audiences on the developmental career needs of college students.
- Partner with colleagues to identify, plan, and execute fairs and networking opportunities.
- Identify and collect student success stories for use in office-related marketing and communication
- Support departmental initiatives by working with faculty and staff to compile and assess student outcomes data.
- Actively and thoughtfully participate in visioning and strategic planning that advances department's position.
Teach INTG 105: College Success (10%)
- Teach up to two sections of the CSB+SJU College Success Course: a 55-minute weekly course designed to support first-year students' transition to college, including academic skills, goal setting, campus connections, and personal/professional development.
- Introduce students to key CSB+SJU resources, support services, and campus engagement opportunities to increase belonging and confidence.
- Facilitate reflective activities and discussions that help students build foundational habits for success and connect their academic experience to long-term purpose and well-being.
- Collaborate with Academic Navigator team to best support students in their academic planning and first year experience.
Other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications:
- Master's degree in related field of study.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to engage a variety of audiences through individual meetings, group presentations, and digital content.
- Strong interpersonal relations skills to positively interact with a variety of constituents.
- Demonstrated skills in the following areas: critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, attention to detail, understanding and utilizing data for informed decisions, organization/prioritization, and adaptability.
- Proven experience in building and managing strategic relationships.
- Ability to articulate the value of liberal arts education.
- Demonstrated creativity in developing innovative, student-centered engagement strategies that are responsive to a broad range of backgrounds, perspectives, and needs.
- Ability to make informed, strategic decisions grounded in professional knowledge, experience, and innovation.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working in higher education.
- Experience in Career Services, Academic Advising, Residential Life, Counseling, Student Success, teaching or other related area of student support services, preferably in an education setting.
- Knowledge of and experience with career development theories, best practices, and trends.
- A theoretical and practical understanding of experiential education and high impact practices in higher education.
- Articulates a broad understanding of department's mission and the impact of strong collaboration.
- Gallup CliftonStrengths certification or willingness to complete certification requirements within one year.
- Experience with student success/case management systems.
Physical requirements:
- Requires working at a computer for extended periods, including typing, reading from a screen, and using various software programs essential for the role
- Occasionally required to lift or move items up to 10-15 pounds
Travel requirements:
- Regular travel between the campuses of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University.
- Some travel required. Travel may occasionally include student supervision. Occasional evening and weekend hours required in support of events.
