Cataloging E-Resources Specialist
Classification: Library Technician
Unlimited, Full Time
Monday – Friday: 7:30-4:00 PM; Onsite
Salary Range: Hourly from $20.76 to $28.44; Annually from $43,347 to $59,383*
*Salary placement is dependent on education and experience

ABOUT THE POSITION

This position exists to support discovery and access to the library’s physical and electronic collections through technician-level cataloging and collection maintenance work. This position works closely with the Acquisitions and Cataloging Librarian and the Electronic Resources Librarian. Cataloging work includes copy cataloging both print and electronic materials, as well as enhancing and updating existing bibliographic records as part of local catalog maintenance projects. Electronic resources work includes serving as a technical contact for online database and access services vendors, documenting and reporting linking or other errors, updating e-journal and e-book metadata, and collecting database usage statistics. This position will also serve the Normandale community at the Circulation Desk on a backup basis and assist with website updates.
This position will actively advance the college’s strategic goals, including achieving equity in educational outcomes and supporting a culturally responsive and service-oriented culture, through individual and departmental efforts.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL: These qualifications are required to move forward; as such, (ensure your application contains descriptions of your education and work experience sufficient to demonstrate competency in each of the following):
At least one (1) year of experience working in a library in a position with a technical service focus (cataloging, e-resources, acquisitions, etc.).
Working knowledge of library classification system(s) and standard library reference tools sufficient to assist clients in locating materials to support academic learning.
Ability to apply and support detailed coding or cataloging systems sufficient to create tracking for new print and non-print library acquisitions and locate and replace existing materials.
Ability to operate personal computers, use various software and web-based applications, and other office equipment sufficient to locate catalog information, word-process documents, complete forms and prepare reports.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing sufficient to determine and respond to the informational needs of clients of varied educational levels and backgrounds; to train, direct and evaluate work of student clerical staff; and to assist the professional library staff to maintain the library collection according to library policy and procedures.

PREFERRED:
Ability to apply a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy to tasks, as well as prioritize and address tasks in an organized and systematic way.
Two (2) years of college course work or a certificate in library information technology or equivalent program.
Experience managing electronic resources and/or performing cataloging duties using online library systems, such as OCLC Connexion and Alma (or another integrated library system).
Demonstrated cross-cultural knowledge and cultural responsiveness to facilitate positive working or service relationships in a diverse community.
Demonstrated experience ensuring equity, diversity, and inclusion are effectively addressed in the provision of library services.
Familiarity with current cataloging standards and vocabularies including MARC-21, RDA, LCC, LCSH, and LCGFT.
Working knowledge of software commonly used in electronic resources and website maintenance work. For e-resources, Alma or another e-resources management system and Microsoft Office Excel or a similar program. Advanced spreadsheet application skills using formulas and other data manipulation techniques to manage and compare large datasets across multiple sheets is strongly preferred. For website maintenance, experience with web content management systems and standard HTML and CSS.
Experience with technical problem reporting or ticketing including compiling and annotating substantiating documentation, tracking ticket statuses, completing follow ups, and communicating resolutions.
Demonstrated ability to systematically troubleshoot or problem solve technical or metadata issues.
A high level of initiative and ability to function autonomously.
Ability to assist students with basic computer or equipment needs with clear, service-orientated communication and support.
