Chair, Department of Urology

Stanford Medicine is initiating a search for the position of Chair and Professor of the Department of Urology in the University Medical Line or University Tenure Line.

Recognized as one of the world's leading research and teaching institutions, Stanford University is located in Silicon Valley, the heart of the Bay Area bioscience community. Stanford Medicine incorporates the School of Medicine as well as two internationally renowned hospitals: Stanford Health Care and Stanford Medicine Children’s Health. It is situated on Stanford campus, which also includes the Schools of Humanities and Sciences, Engineering, Law, Business, Education and the Doerr School of Sustainability.

Stanford Medicine’s Department of Urology delivers comprehensive, patient-centered care across all major urologic subspecialties, including Urologic Oncology, Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery, Pediatric Urology, and Endourology. The department serves patients across more than 13 locations throughout the Bay Area - including the East Bay, South Bay, and North Bay - ensuring broad access to its expertise. Backed by leading surgical and clinical capability, the department operates within a multidisciplinary framework, with expert surgeons skilled in open, endoscopic, and minimally invasive techniques to provide patients with the most advanced care available.

The Department of Urology at Stanford Medicine is equally distinguished by innovative and collaborative research programs across basic, translational, clinical, and population sciences. Faculty-led labs and research centers drive advances in precision diagnostics, AI-enabled imaging, novel diagnostic technologies, male reproductive health, regenerative medicine, stem cell biology, and cancer biology. Collaborating with physicians and scientists across Stanford and beyond, these teams are advancing urologic imaging and diagnostic techniques, deepening understanding of cancer biology, and developing new treatment algorithms. With a robust and rapidly expanding clinical trials program, Stanford Urology provides patients access to the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic options and continues to extend its impact across the full spectrum of urologic diseases.

Education is a central pillar of the Department of Urology at Stanford Medicine, where medical students, residents, and fellows train in diverse clinical settings and gain exposure to the full spectrum of urologic care. The residency program has expanded to four residents per year and is projected to include 30 trainees by 2030. Residents consistently earn placements in top fellowship programs across the country, and many advance to leadership roles in academic urology nationwide. The department also offers five fellowship programs that provide advanced clinical and research training in the subspecialties of Endourology, Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery, Pediatric Urology, and Urologic Oncology - all accredited by the ACGME or boarded by their respective societies. In addition, visiting sub-internships give medical students a structured four-week experience that introduces them to urology and its subspecialties through participation in clinics, ward care, and the operating room. Together, these programs represent a robust and expanding educational enterprise that continues to shape the future of urologic medicine.
