Summary

The Associate Director directly manages the department’s internship program for graduate and undergraduate students, within an assigned geographic area, e.g. Miami-Dade and/or Broward counties, West Palm Beach/Treasure Coast , Lee and surrounding  counties or out of state agencies; incumbent is responsible for interviewing students for placement  and monitoring all field placements, developing  and certifying field placement sites, and providing training and consultation to field educators. The Associate Director represents the Office of Professional and Clinical Practice through membership and participation in  faculty committees; and serves as a link in representing the department to the social work practice community.

The Associate Director of OPCP also hold a faculty line based on their degree completion.

Essential Functions

  • Clinical placement agency development and certification
  • Recruits, screens, and assesses agencies for potential affiliation agreements as an internship site in accordance with standards set by the School and the Council on Social Work Education.
  • Certifies and re-certifies clinical placement agencies.
  • Procures required certification documentation in order to establish an agency file.
  • Surveys and maintains the roster of active agencies to insure continued compliance with School requirements.
  • Recommends the discontinuation of Affiliation Agreements due to noncompliance
  • Recruitment, selection, and training of clinical practice educators
  • Interviews potential clinical practice educators and assesses each prospect’s qualifications to become a clinical practice educator
  • Schedules, coordinates, and facilitates all supervision certification training of field prospects
  • Certifies clinical practice educators and ensures all appropriate forms and documents are completed and are on file
  • Plans, develops and implements additional training courses that continuously support and upgrade the educational teaching skills of the Clinical Practice Educator in consultation with the Director of Professional and Clinical Practice as needed.
  • Plans, develops, and facilitates orientation of students in preparation for entry into initial agent placement. Interviews and place students at placement agencies; coordinates all related activities
  • Reviews the completed Office of Professional and Clinical Practice  application forms, academic record (with special attention to the Criminal History Disclosure form and the signed Core Performance signature form), evaluation forms from the previous field placement and documentation from the previous clinical practice advisor (if applicable), and possible consultation with the academic advisor and/or faculty mentor..
  • Interviews students to assess current practice skills development, educational and professional career interests, learning style, and other interests and capabilities.
  • Reviews with the student available agency sites
  • Communicates with the agency's Clinical Practice Educator/Student Coordinator regarding a student referral and obtains a verbal agreement for a student pre-placement interview.
  • Participates in collaborative discussions and the facilitation of replacing a student when needed.
  • Documents the pre-placement process and completion of respective forms on the student’s online record.
  • Assists in the decision-making regarding the Professional and Clinical Practice calendar, submission timeframes and deadlines of application forms for the field cycles-Fall/Spring, Spring/Summer and Summer/Fall.; plans and implements all field orientations, interpret policies and practices to students, advisors, and educators.
  • Assists in the design and implementation of Focused Field Seminars each semester; facilitates seminars in respected location.
  • Reviews OPCP Schedules, Learning Plans,  Internship Site Visit reports, evaluations of students and field placement agencies for their assigned area. Plans appropriate action if needed, based on the findings and advises the Director of Professional and Clinical Practice. Serves as clinical advisors to an assigned number of student interns.
  • Consults with the Director regarding challenging situations in reference to student performance and/or agency concerns. Plans appropriate  remedial action when needed, e.g. the implementation of a Professional Behavior Review and/or Corrective Action Plan.
  • Visits agencies of assigned student interns; consults with advisees and clinical practice educators throughout the semester; completes evaluations as required.
  • Reviews students' Clinical Placement evaluations and assesses the strengths/concerns of agency sites and Clinical Practice Educators in their assigned area.
  • Provides guidance and problem-solving consultation to Clinical Practice Advisors/Clinical Practice Educators in their assigned area; Determines in consultation with the Director, the Clinical Practice Advisor and the Academic Advisor remedial steps to insure appropriate learning opportunities and skill development for the student in field placement agencies.
  • Provides training and guidance to adjunct faculty serving as field advisors.
  • Represents Professional and Clinical Practice and provides a voice for the Clinical Practice Educators and clinical agencies through faculty committee membership; actively participates in staff meetings, school meetings, and curriculum development meetings.
  • Attends and participates in appropriate community meetings and/or conferences that strengthen the relationship of  Professional and Clinical Practice, the School of Social Work and Barry University.
  • Presents Professional and Clinical Practice guidelines and learning opportunities to prospective students at recruitment sessions initiated by the School’s Director of Admissions.
  • Consults individually with prospective students on Professional and Clinical Practice matters upon the request of the Director of Admissions
  • Carries a teaching workload of a minimum of one course per semester; Teach assigned courses.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Professional and Clinical Practice.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) with a minimum of 3-5 years of post-masters experience
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an LCSW or clinical license from their state of origin
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Great communication skills
