Childcare Instructor - Cape Cod Community College
General Statement of Responsibilities
The Childcare Instructor will provide hands-on training and instruction to intellectually disabled adults enrolled in a vocational program focused on developing skills related to childcare. The Instructor will design and deliver curriculum-based lessons, simulate childcare activities, and foster both professional and social development to prepare students for supported or competitive employment in childcare-related settings including preschools, day care centers, and child watch environments.
Examples of Duties
- Introduce the fundamentals of childcare (0-6 years) as it applies to day care centers, preschools, child watch, in both traditional and non-traditional learning modes.
- Prepare and implement an adaptive curriculum tailored to the learning needs of intellectually disabled adults focusing on foundational childcare skills (e.g., basic care routines, safety, communication, hygiene, etc.).
- Provide a multi-modality teaching approach including hands-on activities and role-playing, field trips, on-campus excursions, and arranging for guest speakers.
- Consult with Job Coaches regarding student progress and correlation with classroom teaching.
- Write assessment reports and evaluations and conduct individual progress conferences with students.
- Consult and co-plan with Project Forward colleagues.
- Attend staff meetings and program events throughout the year.
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Two years of experience in childcare or early childhood education settings.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to teach with patience and clarity.
- Ability to differentiate teaching methods to meet varying learning abilities and needs.
- Ability to perform physical/hands on work, including lifting, taking walks and simulating activities found in a childcare setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team player with students and Project Forward staff.
- Proficiency in oral and written communication.
- Proficiency with computer skills (Microsoft Office), including typing, storing/retrieving computer files, completing an online timesheet, tutorials, etc.
- Valid MA Driver's License.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge of basic first aid, child safety standards, and mandated reporting responsibilities.
Additional Information
COMPENSATION: $35.31 per hour for up to 18 hours per week (12 hours of instruction/6 hours prep time) during the Fall 2025 semester and 9 hours per week (6 hours of instruction/3 hours prep time) during the Spring 2026 semester. Part-time, non-benefited, MCCC Unit position
