General Summary
The Odessa College Childrens Center serves as a childcare center, learning center, and child development center designed to support both families and the educational mission of Odessa College. We provide high-quality care and early childhood education for children ages six weeks to five years old, with additional services for school-age children ages 6–11 during the summer months.
The center operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and follows Odessa College holiday closures. Our goal is to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can grow socially, intellectually, physically, emotionally, and developmentally in ways that are appropriate for their age and stage of development.

Specific Position Duties
- Understand, follow, and maintain compliance with all required regulations and standards for childcare operations.
- Adhere to all Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers as required by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
- Follow all guidelines established by the Texas Department of Agriculture Special Nutrition Program (SNP).
- Maintain compliance with Child Care Management Services and West Texas Opportunities, Inc. requirements to preserve the Childrens Centers 4-Star Texas Rising Star Provider status.
- Follow all Odessa College policies, procedures, and expectations, as well as Childrens Center operational standards.
- Complete all required educational and professional training assigned to the position.
- Provide daily care for children, including feeding, diaper changing, supervision, and maintaining a safe classroom environment.
- Develop, implement, and follow lesson plans that support age-appropriate learning and development.
- Complete all required daily documentation and classroom paperwork accurately and timely.
- Support childrens social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development through positive interactions and structured activities.
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities, including after-hours meetings as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director or Acting Director.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds when necessary.
- Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Must successfully pass a background check every two years, including an initial FBI fingerprint check.
- Must complete and maintain a tuberculosis test every two years.
- Must obtain any required immunizations recommended for individuals working with young children.
- Must read and understand the Minimum Standards and Operations Manual for the Childrens Center.
- Must complete mandatory orientation with the Director of the Center.
Work Hours
Work hours vary according to the operational needs of the Childrens Center. Employees may be scheduled for any 8-hour shift between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
