The Department of Neurology has a talented, robust team of more than 70 faculty and staff members spanning nine divisions includes representatives from every neurology subspecialty in adult and child neurology, plus award-winning educators, clinical and translational neuroscientists and master clinicians.

Duties & Responsibilities:
The program specialist will provide administrative support for the Center for Inherited Muscle Research. The program specialist will be responsible for providing overall program support, including scheduling and fiscal management support. The program specialist will be required to be familiar with all aspects of the Center activities in order to provide support for both the overall operations as well as day to day. The position requires a high degree of flexibility, confidentiality, diplomacy and tact. Successful applicants will have strong initiative with good judgement and strong written and verbal communication skills.
Responsibility 1 (50%): Director, Co-Director and other Faculty Scheduling
- Maintain assigned schedule in appropriate software (MS Outlook, Teams, Zoom)
- Respond to meeting request promptly
- Cross check department and program calendars regularly and advise appropriate stakeholders of conflict, as well as propose possible solutions
- Document meeting minutes and disseminate appropriately
- Communicate in a clear and effective way to all stakeholders
Responsibility 2 (30%): Event Planning & Coordination
- Invite guest speakers
- Facilitate travel and lodging arrangements utilizing University approved methods and procedures
- Tracks and files required supporting documentation as needed and required by University policies
Responsibility 3 (20%): Other Tasks & Duties as assigned
- Assist where needed with other activities such as grants submission prep, fiscal reporting preparation, and day to day management of center operations
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree (such as Business Admin, Finance or similar) or equivalent applicable experience (0 – 1 years)
- Experience with software programs and databases, including MS Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Attention to detail, excellent written/verbal communication skills
- Ability to work well independently, but also to seek assistance when needed.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Excellent oral, written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years experiences as an administrative assistant in fast paced environment
- Experience in healthcare environment, clinical research, public or business administration
This is a restricted position with no set end date; continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.
Position will remain open until filled.
Salary Range: $42,500 – $52,000
FLSA Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
