CIS Community Life Coordinator
The Massachusetts Inclusive Post Secondary Education (MAIPSE) is through the MA Office Of Higher Education. It is a grant funded program for students 18-26 years who have had special education services in high school. There are fifteen state-wide initiatives providing access to students with intellectual disabilities and/or autism. Salem State University’s MAIPSE initiative is the Community of Inclusive Scholars (CIS). Students in the CIS program share the same experiences as their college peers in the areas of academics, socialization, professional development, employers/internship sites, and independent living. Students become more independent and actively engaged in creating and living their lives.
The CIS Community Life Coordinator serves as the primary liaison among all stakeholders involved in the implementation of the CIS Residence Life program, including CIS students, SSU Residence Life staff, CIS staff, partnering SSU departments, high school district personnel, and families. This role works closely with students, CIS Community Peer Mentors, Residence Life staff, and CIS personnel to ensure the effective execution of the program and to support students in their transition to on-campus living.
In collaboration with CIS staff, the coordinator is responsible for the planning, development, and delivery of daily programming, activities, and events that enrich the student experience. The position may also involve providing coaching and job coaching as needed. Additional duties may be assigned to support the evolving needs of the program and the organization.
Please Note: This is a 10 month, Part-Time (August – May) grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent upon funding.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or an associate's degree, plus three years of experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities)
- Experience working with adults 18-24 years old with intellectual disabilities and/or autism
- Ability to work independently or as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology or a related field
- One to three years of experience in student housing, residence life, or student affairs (can include graduate assistantships)
- Program development: skill and experience in designing and assessing educational, cultural, or wellness programming
- Community development: knowledge and experience of how to foster a positive, inclusive residential experience
Working Location
This is an onsite position in Salem, MA with on-campus, in-person responsibilities, which may require occasional/frequent/regular work on evenings and weekends.
