The Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) department at California State University San Marcos accepts applications on an on-going basis for our pool counselors. This position is responsible for providing short term individual, couple, group, triage, outreach, consultation, and crisis counseling. Therapists are expected to provide at least 60-65% of their time providing direct service to eligible CSUSM students per Executive Order 1053.

In the California State University system, Student Services Professionals, Academic-Related are in the faculty bargaining unit. Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across our campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applications in this pool ad will only be good for the current academic year. This pool will be closed effective May 31st. If you wish to be considered for the next academic year, you will need to apply to the new pool as it becomes available by June 15th.

Minimum qualifications:

  • One of the following criteria:
  • Licensed as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist or Professional Clinical Counselor in the State of California
  • Possession of a Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-Accredited doctoral program
  • Possession of a terminal master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or a closely related behavioral science field and currently registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT)
  • Demonstrated generalist clinical skills including time-limited, evidence-based individual and group modalities and crisis intervention
  • Commitment to trauma-informed care, inclusive excellence, and experience in working with diverse clients
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a stressful environment
  • Ability to independently organize, manage, and prioritize tasks, including clinical caseload
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; thorough knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  • Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment

Preferred abilities and preferred qualifications:

  • If in possession of a doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology
  • Completion of an APA-Internship
  • A license to practice psychology independently in CA
  • Interest in, and expertise in culturally and socioeconomically diverse student population
  • Bilingual/Multilingual
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving a diverse campus community as it relates to counseling and, as applicable, service.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

- Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $7,483 per full-time month

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

- CSU Classification Salary Range: $7,127 - $12,771 per full-time month

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
