Job Summary:

The Clinical Research Nurse will join the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC) to support and coordinate the care of patients participating in cancer clinical trials. In this role, you will use your nursing expertise to help ensure patients are safely and successfully enrolled, monitored, and supported throughout their research participation. You will collaborate closely with clinical teams, research staff, and investigators—serving as a key coordinator and point of contact between patients, providers, and sponsors. This position focuses on ensuring study requirements are met, safety and data are carefully monitored, and participants feel supported and informed while receiving care from their cancer care team.

This position reports to the Clinical Team Manager and works under the general direction of the Principal Investigator(s) of each study.

Caregiver Information

  • Contact with vulnerable populations that are non-minors (does not pertain to physicians/providers who work with minors): This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations. The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

Remote/Partial Onsite

  • This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides appropriate treatment plan direction and information to study participants
  • May provide expertise, training, and guidance to the community, peers, and/or students
  • Serves as main point of contact and liaison to project participants, investigators, research sponsors, and the research team delivering study information in accordance with established research project standards and protocols
  • Supervises the day-to-day activities of research work unit
  • Provides professional nursing care to patients according to established protocols
  • Secures and schedules logistics for clinical research projects according to the research plan
  • Assists in the recruitment and screening of subjects for clinical studies by conducting physical health assessments
  • Serves a primary point of contact for emergent study participant situations related to adverse effects or complications of the study
  • Collects, verifies, and enters data into database and analyzes clinical information data

Compensation:

The starting salary for the position is $70,000; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum one year nursing experience required.
  • Candidates should have exceptional clinical nursing skills and expertise coupled with a strong interest in clinical research.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure And/Or Compact State Licensure. License/Certification should also include BLS certification required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working with Oncology patients is preferred.
  • Prior clinical research experience preferred.

Education:

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing is required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.
