Position Details: Randolph-Macon College invites applications for a Lecturer in Communication Studies beginning Sept. 1, 2026. This is a one-year, full-time, benefits-eligible position with the possibility for renewal.

The Communication Studies department at RMC major enrolls a wide range of students with varied career interests. Our majors become engaging, ethical, and competent communicators across multiple modalities. They study and practice public speaking, interpersonal and group communication, and gain fluency in visual and digital skills through hands-on experience. The department features faculty from a range of different research and teaching specialties in Mass Communication, Human Communication, and Rhetoric.
Major/Essential Functions: Randolph-Macon College faculty teach, advise, and serve the college and Communication Studies department. Primary teaching responsibilities will include Public Speaking, Interpersonal & Small Group Communication, additional classes that focus on Social Media skills and other topics (such as podcasting), and contributions to general education.
Minimum Qualifications:
- M.A. in Communication (or a closely related field);
- Evidence of teaching experience in (or training to teach) Public Speaking or Interpersonal and/or Small Group Communication;
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching;
- Evidence of a commitment to undergraduate teaching and student engagement; and
- Experience working with students and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that support all learners in reaching their maximum potential.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Communication (or a closely related field) by September 1, 2026;
- Evidence of teaching experience in (or training to teach) Public Speaking, Interpersonal and/or Small Group Communication;
- Prior professional experience in social media management or content creation for a company or organization;
- Evidence of teaching experience in (or training to teach) skills-based or content related courses in Social Media; and
- Evidence of teaching experience to teach Podcasting and/or professional experience to supervise Stinger Studio (RMC’s online student radio station)
