Position Description
The Community Education/Ohlone for Kids & Teens Instructors play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and delivering a diverse range of educational programs and courses that cater to the unique needs and interests of our community. This position contributes to the enrichment of community members' lives through lifelong learning opportunities and the promotion of personal and professional growth.
This is a temporary position, limited to a maximum of 165 working days within a fiscal year. Candidates will be considered for placement as needs arise. Applications are kept on file for one year. After that time, you are welcome to reapply.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Course Development: Develop engaging and relevant course curricula and materials in alignment with community needs and educational goals.
- Instruction: Conduct interactive and informative classes, workshops, or seminars, ensuring an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Adaptability: Modify teaching methods and content based on the diverse learning styles, abilities, and backgrounds of participants.
- Community Engagement: Actively engage with the local community to identify educational needs, preferences, and opportunities for program improvement.
- Professional Development: Stay up to date with current educational trends, techniques, and best practices through continuous learning and professional development.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with other instructors, community organizations, and stakeholders to enhance program offerings and outreach.
- Promotion: Assist in marketing and promoting community education programs to increase participation and community awareness.
- Safety: Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during classes and activities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise and proficiency in the subject matter to be taught.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with a diverse group of participants.
- Prior teaching or training experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive and accessible learning environment for all community members.
- Passion for community education and lifelong learning.
- Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate evening or weekend classes, as needed.
- Ability to pass background checks and other relevant screenings, as required by local regulations.
AND
Must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.
