Job Description

The Contract & Non-Financial Post Award Administrator will provide guidance to a broad spectrum of constituencies, advising faculty, administrators, department chairs, deans, and institutional leadership of compliance mandates, policy, Federal initiatives, and external award terms and conditions. Externally each team member will interact directly with the policy and program offices of external sponsors. These contacts include representatives from Federal agencies, institutions of higher education, foreign entities, corporations and foundations, and state agencies.

The Contract & Non-Financial Post Award Administrator negotiates awards; reviews and approve changes to sponsored program awards; and interpret sponsor guidelines and regulations. This individual should be able to communicate clearly with the sponsoring agencies, faculty, and department administrators on complex matters and provide guidance to resolution.

Award Administration

  • Reviews, negotiates and executes research agreements, contracts, modifications and other consideration agreements related to sponsored programs;
  • Coordinates with internal office as needed (i.e. research compliance offices, general counsel, colleges, etc.) and obtain required internal approvals;
  • Manages handoffs of executed agreements to appropriate offices.
  • Provides guidance to principal investigators related to sponsor requirements for prior approvals;
  • Reviews requests to ensure compliance with sponsor regulations and University policy and procedures;
  • Collaborates with other offices (i.e. Finance, HR, etc.) as needed to ensure information is accurate;
  • Submits prior approval requests in accordance with sponsor requirements as the University authorized official

Training & Policy Development

  • Participate in a formal University Training Program, conduct training sessions with individual departments, assist in the development of up-to-date training manuals, enhance OSP website and attend off campus training conferences.
  • Participate in Internal Policy and Procedures Development
  • Participate in various research committees (internal and external)

Title and salary determined by years of relevant experience. Specifics below.

Contracts & Non-Financial Post Award Administrator: 0-3 years relevant experience: $72,400 - $90,500

Assistant Director: 3-5 years professional experience: $81,800 - $102,300

Senior Assistant Director: 5+ years professional experience: $90,320 - $112,900

Requirements

This position requires the ability to communicate clearly, effectively and in a professional manner. This position must have the capacity to educate and train individuals with varying levels of experience in sponsored program administration. This position must be capable of managing multiple tasks and working in a demanding, deadline-driven environment.

Overall, the ideal candidate for this position must exhibit the following:

  • Experience working with faculty/departmental administrators in an academic setting
  • Professional competence in interpreting Federal regulations, 2CFR200 and FAR; Understanding of Boston College internal administrative/financial systems preferred
  • Ability to negotiate awards while balancing the needs of the research, and responsibilities of non-financial matters the University, and the external sponsor
  • Skilled in handling a complex workload with multiple competing demands and intense deadline pressure
  • Willingness and interest in participating in professional research administration organizations. Continuing professional education as provided by professional organizations (NCURA, SRA, etc.)

Minimum of 0-3 years' professional experience in a central OSP environment. Experience should include working with multiple constituencies. Working knowledge of the industry and standards. Experience negotiating grants, contracts, cooperative agreements, and sub-awards preferred.
