Required Education: Minimum requirement: Interns should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited 4 year college or university, have at least a 2.75 GPA, and have earned at least 60 credit hours at the time of application. May graduates with a qualifying GPA may also be considered.

Required Related Experience: No Experience required.

Required License/Registration/Certification: Interns must possess a valid driver’s license and have their own vehicle and be willing to drive/travel for work.

Physical Requirements: Travel as needed to perform job duties, which may include operating a personal or office vehicle, transporting materials or equipment, traveling between worksites, attending meetings, transporting clientele or other work-related travel. possible overnight stays; visiting clientele at sites throughout the county (including farms); standing/walking for long periods; handling of average-weight objects up to 25 lbs.

Shift: Monday-Friday (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) with evenings and weekends as needed. Weeks can exceed 40 hours.

Job Summary: Internships are available working under the direction of the following Extension professionals: County Extension Agent for Agriculture & Natural Resources -interns will be primarily engaged in delivering educational programming and will assist the agent in conducting on-farm research, providing educational workshops, writing news articles & newsletters, making farm visits, assisting homeowners with horticultural questions, and working with community leaders. Will attend one week of overnight 4-H camp. County Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development – interns will be primarily engaged in delivering educational programming and will assist the agent in planning and conducting youth programs & activities for the county. Will involve working directly with youth and adult volunteers. Will assist agents in writing news articles & newsletters. Will attend one week of overnight 4-H camp. County Extension Agent for Family & Consumer Sciences – interns will be primarily engaged in delivering educational programming and will assist the agent with educational programs related to food & nutrition, financial management, housing, clothing or family well-being. Will assist agents in writing news articles & newsletters and assist with Extension Homemakers. Will attend one week of overnight 4-H camp. County Extension Agent for Horticulture – Interns will be primarily engaged in delivering educational programming and will assist the agent in providing information and educational workshops related to horticulture. May assist with community gardens, farmers markets, Master Gardeners, and/or commercial horticulture producer visits. Will assist agents in writing news articles & newsletters. Will attend one week of overnight 4-H camp. County Extension Agent for Community Arts – Interns will be primarily engaged in delivering educational programming and will assist the agent in the organization, promotion, and management of community arts programs and the marketing of community arts programs and products as it relates to community development. The intern will work directly with youth and adults and will partner with other community arts resources in the community. Will attend one week of overnight 4-H camp. Campus Departments – interns will assist departments with organizing and implementing educational programs and/or research in their respective discipline area. May attend one week of overnight 4-H camp. Salary for campus department interns: $18.75 per hour. Robinson Center for Appalachian Resource Sustainability (RCARS) – Interns will work in Agriculture and Natural Resources. Will assist with Horticulture research projects taking place at RCARS and assist any specialist with programming. There will be some administrative duties in the office. Will be working in the field with crops and provide assistance at the Robinson Forest. May attend one week of overnight 4-H camp. Salary for RCARS interns: $18.75 per hour. Minimum requirement: Interns should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited 4 year college or university, have at least a 2.75 GPA, and have earned at least 60 credit hours at the time of application. May graduates with a qualifying GPA may also be considered. Interns must possess a valid driver’s license and have their own vehicle and be willing to drive/travel for work. Travel expenses are reimbursed in accordance with Extension and University policy. All interns will support the dissemination of useful and practical information on subjects relating to Agriculture, Family Consumer Sciences, 4-H and Community and Rural Development as outlined in the KRS statutes 164.605 to 164.675. State law requires a national and state criminal background check and a letter from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services stating the employee is clear to hire based on no findings of substantiated child abuse or neglect found through a background check of child abuse and neglect records as a condition of employment or involvement in this program.Resume, cover letter and transcripts are required at time of application.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities: Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing with groups and individuals and through mass media. Ability to use the computer for program delivery and management. Ability to visit clientele at sites throughout the county. Ability to plan and teach educational programs. Demonstrated leadership and ability to serve as a positive role model. Interns must possess a valid driver’s license and have their own vehicle and be willing to drive/travel for work.

Preferred Education/Experience: Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) and Horticulture interns must be enrolled in an area of Agriculture or Horticulture; Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) interns must be enrolled in an area of FCS; 4-H interns do not have a specific required major.
