Job Description
SUNY Schenectady County Community College seeks a full-time Coordinator of ADA Transition Services I in the Office of Student Affairs. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, the Coordinator of ADA Transition Services I serves in a full-time, 12-month position. The coordinator is responsible for administering accessibility services and accommodations for students with permanent and temporary disabilities, ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504, and related regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assess eligibility for disability-related accommodations and coordinate support services for students with disabilities.
- Assist students with the transition to college and the development of self-advocacy and independence skills.
- Coordinate accommodations and support services, including note takers, readers, writers, interpreters, and other approved services.
- Work closely with faculty to ensure the timely implementation of accommodations.
- Maintain partnerships with campus offices and external agencies to support students with disabilities.
- Assist the Admissions Office with outreach, recruitment, open houses, information sessions, and accommodation needs related to registration and placement testing.
- Assist students receiving financial assistance, including coordination with vocational rehabilitation and related funding agencies.
- Develop and implement educational programs, training opportunities, and awareness initiatives related to accessibility and disability services.
- Coordinate compliance with ADA, Section 504, FERPA, and other applicable regulations affecting accessibility services.
- Coordinate services and procedures consistent with SUNY guidelines and applicable federal and state requirements.
- Serve as College liaison to the ADA Student Advisory Committee.
- Participate as an active member of SUNY accessibility and disability services affinity groups.
- Maintain confidential records and prepare required reports regarding students served and services provided.
- Communicate with prospective students via telephone, email, and in-person interactions, providing accurate information while maintaining confidentiality and ensuring compliance with FERPA regulations.
- Prepare various narrative and statistical reports.
- Meet schedules, commitments and timelines for services provided as well as all reporting requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the Student Affairs Division.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, rehabilitation counseling, special education, social work, psychology, human services, or educational leadership or related field.
- Two years of professional experience in disability services, accessibility services, rehabilitation counseling, student support services, or a related field, including direct experience supporting students with disabilities.
- Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and related accessibility regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated experience assessing disability documentation, determining accommodation eligibility, and facilitating the implementation of reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree
- Experience in higher education, preferably at a community college.
- Knowledge of Title II of the ADA and EIT
