What You'll Do and Who We Are Looking For

The Corrections Education Department is seeking a Computer Lab and Tutoring Coordinator. This role is full-time and is located at the Columbia River Correctional Institution. The Computer Lab and Tutoring Coordinator works independently to evaluate the instructional needs of students, assign appropriate subject areas using education software (i.e. Aztec), work with students individually and in groups, and monitors student progress, assigning new subject areas as needed. As students progress through the program, the position collaborates frequently with Department of Corrections staff, officers, and counselors in order to balance the competing demands on the time and energy of the adults in custody (AICs). Another important component to the position is the recruiting, training, supervising, and mentoring of inmate peer-tutors assigned to ABE/GED students. There is ongoing collaboration with tutors and the Computer Lab and Tutoring Coordinator regarding lesson planning, educational strategies, educational resources and the readiness of students to test (both CASAS and GED.)

Computer Lab Duties:
  1. Conduct adult in custody student program in a correctional facility.
  2. Schedule and coordinate student activities in the computer lab.
  3. Assist students in the use of computer hardware and software.
  4. Administer education software (Aztec, Reading Horizons, etc...).
  5. Maintain student attendance and progress records.
  6. Coordinate the maintenance of the lab computers and software.
  7. Cultivate student persistence in computer lab classes and activities.
  8. Record student progress reports for reporting purposes.
Tutor Program Duties:
  1. Recruit, interview, train and manage inmate tutors and clerks.
  2. Conduct quarterly reviews of tutor program with inmates and staff.
  3. Supervise the scheduling of 60 students and 12 tutors.
  4. Review, select, and update curriculum used by tutors.
  5. Conduct regular meetings to facilitate efficient communication and coordination of work efforts among inmate tutors and staff.
  6. Work closely with the Education Coordinator, Director, and Testing Assistant to ensure effective pursuit of organizational objectives.
  7. Handle disciplinary issues among inmate workers and students.
