Data Analyst II, Civil & Architectural Engineering and Mechanics
Position Highlights
The Center for Applied Transportation Sciences (CATS) in the College of Engineering is seeking motivated applicants to fill a Data Analyst II position. CATS is a college-level research center established at the University of Arizona and founded in 2021. CATS' mission is to serve as a research, training, and capacity-building resource for regional governments, educational institutions, and private sectors in the field of Smart Communities.
The successful applicant will support the Center's technical, operational, and administrative functions by managing key data systems, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of data pipelines, and maintaining critical applications such as the SMART Tool and related databases.
The role will lead system enhancements to support informed decision-making and improve workflow efficiency. In addition, the position contributes to project coordination, center operations, and event support, ensuring smooth daily activities and strong communication between technical teams, faculty, staff, and stakeholders.

Duties & Responsibilities
Data Systems Management, Requirements Analysis & System Oversight (IT Related)
- Maintain, monitor, and update databases, including recurring data feeds and automated Python/R ingestion and validation processes. Analyze, troubleshoot, restart, and ensure continuity of automated data workflows and integrations.
- Gather, document, and analyze requirements for IT systems, applications, and data-driven workflows.
- Lead updates, enhancements, and future improvements for the SMART Tool and related dashboards.
- Collaborate with CATS IT team to build data solutions and perform trend analysis using Python, R, Shiny, SQL, APIs, and visualization tools, including participating in testing and QA activities.
- Identify improvement opportunities within systems/processes to improve efficiency and overall operations.
- Ensure websites, dashboards, and reporting systems display accurate, timely, and validated information for internal and external users.
Coordination & Center Engagement
- Manage schedules, communications, and action items across teams to support smooth center operations.
- Facilitate meetings, workshops, and center-related events, including agendas and follow-ups.
- Support planning and logistics for center activities, seminars, guest visits, and engagement initiatives.
- Assist with preparing center communications, updates, and outreach materials for stakeholders.
- Maintain strong working relationships with agency partners, industry collaborators, and university units.
- Coordinate internal announcements, staff updates, and cross-team engagement efforts.
- Support center-level documentation, records, and scheduling needs to enhance operational efficiency.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support center initiatives.
Operational Support
- Ensure efficient day-to-day operations by addressing logistical needs and resolving operational issues promptly.
- Assist with preparing reports, summaries, and internal documentation for reviews and communications, including user guides and update materials to support system changes.
- Facilitate onboarding support, training, and guidance for student workers, interns, or new team members.
- Support procurement (Pcard), budget tracking, and resource coordination for ongoing projects.
- Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, and document action items to support project workflows.
- Oversee administrative tasks, including scheduling, recordkeeping, and file management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of data analysis and automation tools, including Python and R, for processing, validating, and reporting on institutional data.
- Working knowledge of database management and SQL, including experience with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
- Familiarity with AWS environments and general cloud-based application support.
- Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills to support multi-stakeholder coordination.
- Ability to manage simultaneous tasks, support operational workflows, and troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
- Capacity to learn new tools, adapt to emerging technologies, and apply best practices to improve processes.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
