Dean, School of Civil Engineering and Construction Management
Job Description:
- Based in the College of Engineering and IT
- Location Adelaide City East Campus
- Full-time, 5-year fixed term contract
At Adelaide University, we create the opportunities you need to achieve your ambitions – because when you thrive, we thrive.
We are transforming education for contemporary learners and global citizens. Building on a proud legacy and shaped by bold ambition, it’s a place of excellence and equity, where our vibrant community of staff are united by our purpose to inspire Australia’s future change-makers and create a better tomorrow.
The School of Civil Engineering and Construction Management at Adelaide University sits within a broader engineering and IT environment, namely the College of Engineering & IT, with recognised strengths including AI, sustainable infrastructure, energy transition and industry-aligned applied research. The unique complementarity of construction management provides forward-thinking industry shaped insights to be adopted across the School. Its positioning reflects a practical research focus on the design, delivery and performance of infrastructure and the built environment, supported by close links between academic work, industry collaboration and real-world engineering challenges (and needs).
The School also benefits from access to substantial technical infrastructure and support across the College. Key features include Australia's largest structural testing "strong floor," advanced geotechnical and pavement labs, and specialised facilities for construction material testing (concrete, timber, steel). Shared College laboratories and workshops include facilities for concrete, mechanical and environmental testing, instrumentation, data acquisition and process control, as well as CNC machining and 3D printing. More broadly, the College’s specialist facilities, such as the Adelaide Wind Tunnel and the Collaborative Design Facility, reinforce an applied, industry-facing research environment with capability across infrastructure, design innovation and advanced engineering solutions.
With the vision and ambition to drive the performance of the School, the Dean will lead 200 staff and 1500 students to both unify under a shared mission and strategy whilst developing new opportunities for interaction between the University, industry and the broader community. With a passion for innovation, differentiation and excellence, the Dean will engage academic colleagues, industry partners and students in realising those opportunities.
Candidates will bring strong academic credentials, proven leadership in complex environments, and a record of engaging with industry, government, and the international higher education community.
With delegated powers for resource management and academic performance, candidates will demonstrate the intellectual, strategic and operational leadership qualities to engage colleagues, students and stakeholders in shaping a long-term strategy that will position the School as a hub of thought leadership and academic excellence.
