Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Dental Hygiene Faculty Member and First-Year Coordinator will prepare, present, and evaluate lecture and clinic curriculum according to ADA accreditation requirements and College policies and procedures.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  1. Develop and submit course outlines and semester schedules for assigned first year clinical and didactic courses by published deadlines.
  2. Serve as First-Year Coordinator, ensuring implementation and compliance with approved curriculum and scheduling standards.
  3. Participate in the organization and development of the Student Dental Hygiene Association (SADHA).
  4. Prepare and distribute clinical rotation schedules for students, faculty, and assistants at least two weeks before each session; maintain updates as needed.
  5. Supervise HIPAA compliance and manage post-exposure reporting and documentation per institutional policy.
  6. Evaluate student performance using established calibration protocols for clinical, radiographic, and electronic health record competencies.
  7. Provide academic advising to assigned students each semester and maintain advising documentation.
  8. Attend and document all required program, department, and division meetings, chair weekly faculty meetings and submit minutes within two business days.
  9. Plan and conduct at least one calibration session per semester for first-year clinical faculty; maintain attendance and session records.
  10. Oversee daily clinic operations related to the first-year cohort, including maintenance logs, patient scheduling, emergency management, and patient concerns.
  11. Contribute to curriculum review and quality assurance by submitting written recommendations and implementing approved revisions.
  12. Prepare assigned sections of CODA self-study reports and provide supporting documentation by established deadlines.
  13. Assist the supervising dentist with coordination of patient care and student communication during assigned sessions.
  14. Develop and annually update the Medical Emergencies component of Dental Hygiene Clinic II (DEN 128).
  15. Coordinate interprofessional education activities with Health Sciences departments; document participation and outcomes.
  16. Prepare and distribute faculty/student/dentist schedules for DEN 128 rotations two weeks in advance.
  17. Train and mentor new part-time faculty, completing orientation checklists and calibration within 30 days of hire.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program/registered dental hygienist.
  2. Master's degree in dental hygiene or related field.
  3. Eligible for Massachusetts dental hygiene licensure.
  4. Current certification in the administration of local anesthesia. Eligible for Massachusetts Permit L.
  5. Current healthcare provider CPR and AED certification.
  6. Current membership in the American Dental Hygienists' Association.
  7. Five (5) years of current practice experience in private dental practice and/or dental clinic.
  8. Experience utilizing digital radiography and computerized dental management software.
  9. Evidence of current teaching methodologies, including experiences with media, innovative use of evolving instructional technologies in the classroom, and the use of learning management systems such as Moodle.
  10. Skill in implementing active and collaborative learning strategies.
  11. Skill in measuring student learning outcomes, evaluating course efficacy, and assessing and improving student learning.
  12. Demonstrated college-level teaching experience.
  13. Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Community college teaching experience.
  2. Experience using Ascend computerized clinical software.
  3. Periodontal experience.
  4. Experience, appreciation, and commitment to working in a global, multicultural academic setting.

Additional Information:

COMPENSATION: Full-time, tenure-track MCCC Unit Position with anticipated salary range of $70,481 - $75,845 (for 9-month academic year); actual salary will be commensurate with education, qualifications, and experience and consistent with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Position also includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program, including option to participate in the Massachusetts Employee State Retirement System.
