Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Deputy Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity will work under the supervision of the Executive Director to assist the University in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements for Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, Americans with Disabilities Act, and all other discrimination and harassment federal and state laws and regulations, and applicable University policies.
This will include conducting or assisting with the following: intake, supportive measures, religious and Title IX accommodations, civil rights investigations, developing and implementing the Universitys annual affirmative action plan, participating in campus threat assessment and criminal background reviews, creating and conducting civil rights trainings or ways of educating faculty, staff and students across the University. This position may assist in such responsibilities with University partners as well.
This position will work closely with the Universitys Legal Counsel, Human Resources, Disability Services, University Police, the Dean of Students, Athletics and other administrators.
Required Qualifications:
Required Education (one of the following):
- Law degree (JD or LL.M); or
- Masters degree; or
- Bachelors degree and 2 years of civil rights or related experience
Required Experience:
- One year full-time experience in civil rights, employee relations, human resources, mediation, or a relevant area
- Experience using technology-based employee or student data management systems
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred:
- Knowledge of employment and student discrimination/harassment rights laws
- Ability to confidentially perform fair and impartial civil rights investigations
- Knowledge of and experience with higher education
- Ability to creatively solve problems through mediation/negotiation or other strategies
- Excellent presentation skills and demonstrated effective human relations and communication skills
- A broad and substantive understanding of investigations, legal analysis and writing, and litigation processes in the areas of equal opportunity, discrimination law, disability law, and administrative employment processes

Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
