Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Director of Admissions provides strategic leadership for a dynamic, student-centered admissions operation. The Director plays a pivotal role in shaping and advancing a comprehensive, campus-wide enrollment strategy aligned with institutional priorities.

This position requires a forward-thinking, collaborative leader with demonstrated expertise in recruitment, marketing, data-driven decision-making, and enrollment management.

The Director will guide a dedicated admissions and processing team that works closely with athletics, faculty, and other campus stakeholders to attract and retain a diverse and talented student body. Success in this role demands an entrepreneurial mindset, strong analytical skills, and the ability to inspire cross-campus engagement in support of enrollment goals and student success.

Examples of Duties

  • Lead the execution of a comprehensive admissions strategy and meet recruitment objectives as directed by the Vice President for Enrollment Management (VPEM) and informed by the university strategic plan and enrollment management plan.
  • Provide dynamic leadership for the Undergraduate Admissions Office, modeling a service-oriented culture that values innovation, accountability, and high-touch student engagement.
  • Oversee admissions operations, including application processing, decision-making workflows, CRM systems, and database management—ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and timely responses. Coordinate with the CRM administrator to optimize tools supporting both traditional campus-based enrollment and the Husson Online and Distance Education Division.
  • Recruit, train, evaluate, and mentor staff, both on-campus and in regional offices, fostering professional development, clear performance expectations, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee all recruitment initiatives and office operations including prospect development, enrollment marketing efforts, recruitment travel, on and off-campus recruitment events, application processing, and database management.
  • Consult regularly with the Director of International Initiatives on the continuous development of recruitment strategies targeted at key international student populations.
  • Collaboratively work with the Director of Financial Aid and VPEM in the development and execution of financial aid strategy, leveraging institutional merit and need-based financial aid funds to maximize student enrollment.
  • Utilize institutional research, higher education trend data and vendor/partner analyses to create and maintain a robust reporting structure that enable the institution to make data-driven decisions regarding the targeting of recruitment strategies, efficiently utilize fiscal and human resources.
  • Work in collaboration with the Office of Marketing and Communication in the development and execution of an array of recruitment materials, including print, e-campaigns, video, social media, paid digital media campaigns, vendor partnerships and institutional websites.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology department and third-party resources regarding software and systems that are utilized to achieve the recruitment targets and objectives.
  • Supervise and provide leadership to the enrollment administrative staff and Admissions Welcome Center.
  • Represent the university at community and recruitment events on and off campus.
  • Participate in local, regional, and national professional organizations to ensure the implementation of industry best practices and execution of admissions strategy, policy, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties, responsibilities or special projects as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five years of progressive experience in admissions, enrollment services or related field.
  • Supervisory experience in a college or university setting, monitoring performance of both salaried and hourly personnel.
  • Previous exposure to financial aid policy, regulation and funding sources including federal, state, and private sources.
  • Previous experience with transfer and non-traditional undergraduate student populations.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead a diverse team of admissions staff working in a unified manner to establish and implement complex strategies.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership regarding staff development, change management, process development and/or improvement, and conflict resolution.
  • Personal integrity, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, significant strategic and analytical capacity, technological savvy, a collaborative work style, and commitment to excellence.
  • Knowledge of university enterprise information systems, best practices in admissions recruitment, and technology related to current sophisticated marketing techniques.
