Director of Admissions

Director of Admissions

Champlain College's Director of Admissions is responsible for leading the admissions team in executing a strategic, data-driven recruitment and enrollment plan that meets institutional goals. This role requires a results-oriented leader who ensures accountability at every stage of the admissions funnel - from prospect generation to deposit conversion - by setting clear expectations, tracking performance, and driving continuous improvement.

The Director will oversee the recruitment team, manage enrollment forecasts, and work collaboratively across departments to enhance yield strategies and student engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership and Enrollment Growth

  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine an admissions strategy that meets or exceeds enrollment targets, with a strong focus on increasing applications and yield.
  • Ensure data-driven decision-making by monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) such as inquiry-to-application conversion rates, campus visit impact, and admitted student yield.
  • Collaborate with marketing and financial aid teams to implement effective messaging, outreach, and scholarship strategies that enhance the Champlain College's student experience and enrollment outcomes.
  • Lead efforts to identify new markets and recruitment pipelines, including transfer students, adult learners, and underrepresented populations.

Performance Management & Staff Development

  • Establish clear expectations for individual and team performance, ensuring all team members meet or exceed enrollment goals.
  • Develop and enforce accountability measures, including performance metrics, recruitment activity tracking, and transparent reporting structures.
  • Provide ongoing professional development opportunities, including mentorship, script refinement, and best-practice workshops, to ensure staff are equipped with the skills and strategies needed for success.
  • If goals are not met, create structured improvement plans with clear benchmarks, deadlines, and follow-up reviews to measure progress and ensure alignment with institutional expectations.
  • Hold staff accountable for follow-through on outreach efforts, campus visits, and relationship-building with prospective students and families.

Operational Excellence & Process Improvement

  • Ensure efficient operations in application review, transcript evaluation, and admissions decisions by leveraging automation tools, and predictive analytics to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Lead efforts to maximize CRM usage (e.g., Slate, Salesforce, or similar platforms) for real-time tracking, forecasting, and reporting on enrollment trends, ensuring seamless integration with marketing automation and student engagement platforms.
  • Implement best practices in admissions counseling, recruitment travel, and virtual engagement by incorporating personalized communication through dynamic content marketing, and virtual technologies to maximize effectiveness and student engagement.
  • Work closely with institutional leadership to align recruitment efforts with broader institutional priorities.
  • Represent the college at internal and external events, fostering relationships with school counselors, community organizations, and key influencers.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • 5 years of progressive experience in admissions, enrollment management, or related fields, with demonstrated success in hitting enrollment targets.
  • Proven track record of accountability-driven leadership, including managing teams, setting performance expectations, and holding staff responsible for results.
  • Experience developing and executing data-informed enrollment strategies with measurable success in increasing applications and yield.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to forecast enrollment trends, manage recruitment pipelines, and interpret key admissions data.
  • Expertise in CRM systems (e.g., Slate, Salesforce, or similar) and leveraging technology to optimize recruitment and outreach.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and build strategic partnerships.
  • Willingness to travel as needed and work flexible hours during peak recruitment seasons.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in higher education, business, or a related field.
  • Experience in transfer recruitment, adult learner engagement, or international admissions.
  • Knowledge of financial aid packaging and its impact on student decision-making.

Additional Information:

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Annual Salary: $80,000 - $90,000
  • Comprehensive Benefits Package:
    • Health Coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance with HSA and FSA options
