Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington. With a track record of global leadership in bone marrow transplantation, HIV/AIDS prevention, immunotherapy and COVID-19 vaccines, Fred Hutch has earned a reputation as one of the world's leading cancer, infectious disease and biomedical research centers. Fred Hutch operates eight clinical care sites that provide medical oncology, infusion, radiation, proton therapy and related services, and network affiliations with hospitals in five states. Together, our fully integrated research and clinical care teams seek to discover new cures to the world's deadliest diseases and make life beyond cancer a reality. At Fred Hutch we value collaboration, compassion, determination, excellence, innovation, integrity and respect. Our commitment to learning across our differences and similarities make us stronger. We seek employees who bring different and innovative ways of seeing the world and solving problems. The Thomas lab in the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division is seeking a Director of Computational Sciences to lead a program in immune repertoire profiling, decoding, and analysis. The individual will manage multiple individuals at various ranks, providing support a) sample selection and study design, b) experimental protocols for data generation, and c) data analysis specifically for lymphocyte TCR and BCR repertoire sequencing. Studies will be focused on primary human samples derived from blood or tissues in individuals with characterized infection or tumor histories. Using a combination of bioinformatic and computational approaches, we will integrate these data with other data and metadata obtained from the sample and individuals, including tumor mutation profiles, infection histories, serology, and other high resolution immune profiling. In addition to these core objectives, we will include analysis of valuable and clinically relevant sample sets such as HCT patients experiencing GVH, and aplastic anemia subjects. This position leads an interdisciplinary project team to develop and optimize novel TCR/BCR repertoire sequencing technologies and data analysis strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the interdisciplinary team of scientists focused on immune repertoire decoding and analysis.
  • Propose innovative technologies and processes for immune profiling of intra-tumoral lymphocytes, tissue lymphocytes, and other primary samples from diverse human disease states and oversee development, implementation and adoption of these technologies by the project team.
