Director of Licensure Programs for School of Education

The Director of Licensure Programs is responsible for having a working knowledge of licensure/certification requirements for all fifty states and territories. This position is the liaison for the School of Education with the university’s State Approvals Office, and other states agencies that we work closely with. This Director of Licensure Programs collaborates with the deans, chairs, and university representatives for student issues and projects. This position manages teacher licensure inquiries through personal and departmental email inboxes and phone communication.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  1. Research and identify the licensure/certification information for each endorsement area from all U.S. States, Territories, and Washington D.C.
  2. Research and communication with the State Approvals Office for specific state’s approval.
  3. Determine which School of Education programs meet and do not meet the licensure/certification requirements from each State, Territory, and D.C.
  4. Work with the School of Education administration, State Approvals Office, and Office of Legal Affairs to create disclosures for each program/state-territory combination.
  5. Continually update the disclosures when School of Education programs change and/or state requirements change.
  6. Working knowledge of GAPSC and KECS requirements.
  7. Liaise with state representatives for degree program approval.
  8. Working knowledge of state requirements and specific inquiries from the state.
  9. Attain reports from university data and submit to state approvals office.
  10. Collaborate with the Assessment Team to create reports related to accreditation information for Title II federal report, VDOE Biennial Report and other Virginia Department of Education reports and updates, Association of Christian Schools International, Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation, and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
  11. Monitoring all questions from students, GAPSC, and KECS.
  12. Tracking of all Georgia and Kentucky students throughout each specific degree program.
  13. Input of Georgia and Kentucky students’ information into their respective systems (GAPSC and KECS, respectively).
  14. Liaise with GAPSC and KY representatives to maintain and communicate their respective requirements.
  15. Tracking students within the specific state to ensure all state requirements are met.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Does position directly or indirectly supervise other employees? YES. Does position supervise subordinate supervisors? NO. Specific Management/Leadership Responsibilities: Assign and oversee licensure projects; Monitoring subordinate team members’ student email responses as necessary; Ensuring School of Education operations are implemented based on established procedures; Lead weekly meetings with Licensure Manager, Licensure Coordinator, Licensure Secretary, and supervise Work Assistants.

Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies

Education and Experience: Minimum - Master’s degree, Current state teaching license, 3 years teaching in K-12 setting, 5 years administrative experience in higher education and understanding of academic administration, Proficient in Microsoft Office, Superior organizational skills, Ability to coordinate time sensitive functions across multiple departments, Capability to represent the department and university in a professional manner. Preferred - Experience in a fast-paced environment. Communication and Comprehension: Superior interpersonal, customer service, presentation, and communication skills required. Problem-Solving: Creative, innovative, and problem-solving skills required. Physical and Sensory Abilities: Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard; Regularly required to hear and speak in order to communicate orally in an effective manner; Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building; Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business; Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.
