Salary: $5000 per course/semester

The DNP Project Advisor (PA) is a key contributor to the DNP Advanced Practice Program's mission of preparing nursing leaders who are equipped to translate evidence into practice, drive healthcare innovation, and improve patient and population health outcomes. The Advisor's role is integral to ensuring that students are well-supported throughout their DNP project journey and are able to achieve their academic and professional goals.

The DNP Scholarly Project Advisor (PA) coordinates the activities and evaluates student outcomes in the Scholarly Project Courses. This position involves oversight and advising students in the conceptualization, development, implementation, and dissemination of their DNP projects, ensuring alignment with evidence-based practice and the mission of the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. The DNP Project Advisor collaborates closely with the DNP Project Team, faculty, and external partners to maintain high standards of academic excellence and promote the impact of student projects on clinical practice, healthcare outcomes, and system-level improvements.

The DNP Project Advisor reports to the Course Coordinator(s), Associate Director for the DNP Projects, and the DNP Program Director and works closely with other faculty members to ensure alignment of student projects with program goals.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Project oversight includes ongoing review and refinement, identifying content expert faculty when needed to support specific project needs.
  • Develop a project timeline with the student that aligns with the DNP project guidelines and supports timely final project completion and approval through Johns Hopkins Project Ethical Review Committee (PERC).
  • Responsible for maintaining ongoing communication with the DNP student and other Team member(s).
  • Meet with students (onsite or virtually) at least 5-6 times per semester as part of course requirements for DNP Project courses.
  • Guide the DNP student in the development and growth of key leadership and scholarly skills necessary to result in a high-quality DNP project.
  • Once the project is completed, the DNP Project Advisor will mentor and guide the student through their final scholarly paper.
  • During semesters when project courses are not in session, the Project Advisor is to stay in email communication to address any needs or issues and meet with their students 1-2 times during if necessary.
  • Grade student assignments in a timely manner, providing detailed and constructive feedback to support learning and progress.
  • Identify students 'at risk' for not meeting course or project outcomes and collaborate to assist in developing corrective action plans and remediation strategies. These plans aim to support student success and ensure attainment of required competencies. All proposed remediation strategies must be reviewed and discussed with the Course Coordinator and Track Director prior to implementation.
  • Check official Johns Hopkins University (JHU) email daily and respond to students within 48 business hours to maintain timely and professional communication.

Qualifications

  • The project advisor should have a doctoral degree from an accredited institution, preferably a DNP degree.
  • Current and unencumbered RN and/or APRN licensure in the state of Maryland (or eligibility for Maryland licensure.
  • Prior experience advising or mentoring graduate-level nursing students is preferred.
  • Technical proficiency experience with virtual meeting platforms, online learning management systems, and project management tools is preferred. A willingness to learn new technologies as needed to support student learning.
  • The role requires excellent strong organizational skills, and excellent written and oral interpersonal communication skills. Candidates must display a high degree of professionalism and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse partners.

This position is primarily remote, with required attendance at onsite immersions and synchronous online sessions. All travel expenses associated with attending onsite activities are the responsibility of the PA.
