Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advise students before, during, and after an education abroad experience. This includes recruitment of students through campus programming events, facilitation of application processing and information gathering. Coordinating with academic departments on course equivalencies, advising students on course transfers and registration, and processing grade and transcripts.
  • Orchestrate the implementation of effective education abroad recruitment and advising across all academic colleges/schools.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Education Abroad to manage, coordinate, and improve programs and services for all education abroad students.
  • Serve as an advisor for education abroad programs, including advising students with program and course selection, application processing, and scholarship assistance.
  • Provide group and individual academic advising for study abroad students across all majors.
  • Plan and conduct student and parent presentations across the curriculum for education abroad participation, including Racer Days, Summer O, and classroom presentations.
  • Liaise with exchange partners and program providers as assigned.
  • Liaise with academic departments and colleges for education abroad support as needed, including work with the Faculty Study Abroad Ambassadors and Student Study Abroad Ambassadors.
  • Collaborate with academic and student affairs and enrollment management departments to promote education abroad opportunities and partner in university recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Serve as Program Director on education abroad programs as needed.
  • Coordinate and implement education abroad programming and scholarship workshops.
  • Assist with the supervision of student employees.
  • Responsible for application system management, design and updates, and maintenance for assigned colleges and programs.
  • Provide direct service support to all study abroad students on education abroad courses, course equivalencies, cultural and travel readiness, and student development.
  • Keep current in field standards and maintain active participation in professional organizations.
  • Advocate for students to ensure they receive the benefits of support services available before, during, and after their education abroad experience.
  • Deliver student orientation and manage student orientation enrollment, maintenance, and student completion for all study abroad programs.
  • Review applications, accept and reject student for education abroad programs.
  • Communicate with students while abroad.
  • Assist with crisis management if called upon to do so.
  • Manage social media for the Education Abroad Office.
  • Create and manage all coordination and publicity for the Study Abroad Fair.
  • Design publications for education abroad and teach abroad.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required.

Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements: Experience in or an understanding of academic advising or serving in a mentor role for college students. Experience dealing with confidential information. Requires demonstrated effective written, interpersonal communication, and public speaking skills. Demonstrate strong organizational skills, the ability to work on several projects simultaneously, and prioritize tasks. Ability to exercise sound independent judgement, and work successfully with students and colleagues in a team. Demonstrate ability to quickly and thoroughly gain knowledge of academic programs and general studies requirements to properly advise students. Requires excellent computer skills. Must possess a willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally as needed. Must possess a U.S. driver’s license. Must possess a valid passport for international travel.

Preferred Education and/or Experience Qualifications: Master’s degree is preferred in an appropriate field (higher education, international education, college student personnel, TESOL, or other related programs). Preferred experience working with computer-based software such as Via-TRM, Terra Dotta, Degree-works, and Banner.
