Title of Position: Educational Assistant II – Culinary Arts
Bargaining Unit/Salary Range: MSEA Support Services; Salary Range # 15: $20.73 per hour. 38 Hours per week.
Job Summary: This position reports directly to the Culinary Department Chair and supports the academic efforts of the Culinary Department. In addition to assisting faculty with class preparations and supervision of related student activities, the Education Assistant provides individualized and small group instruction to reinforce the concepts presented in lecture classes. Additionally, the Education Assistant ensures the student compliance of safety, sanitation, and appropriate workplace behaviors. Supervises clean up, setting up demonstrations, preparing handouts, photocopying, inventory, ordering and food procurement.
Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree in Culinary Arts with a minimum of 3 years experience working in the food service industry or experience working with students in an educational setting. Must have valid drivers license, SERV Safe and ability to lift to 50 pounds.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of relevant academic subject area.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with students, to supervise students activities, motivate students.
- Ability to conduct effective inventory, ordering, and food procurement processes.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with food providers / purveyors and industry partners.
- Ability to work with students with varying learning styles and abilities.
- Ability to adhere to college policies, procedures, and safety guidelines in the performance of job duties.
- Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
- Previously worked in a professional / commercial kitchen environment, including hazards with burns, high temps, and cuts, utilizing various cooking utensils requiring safety precautions.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Previously worked with students in a community college setting.
- Experience using a Student Information System (SIS) / Brightspace.
