Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with Director in all phases of the Early Learning Center’s operations- assists Director with Parent Nights, special events and student orientations.
  • Mentors and supervises all practicum students during instruction and oversees daily maintenance of the ELC .
  • Will create and help implement a Unit of Instruction for each semester that will align with the curriculum, Alabama Standards for Early Learning and Development, and NAEYC best practices. Supervises and approves all lesson plans; works with all practicum students to ensure quality of instruction.
  • Notifies Director/Professor of any student who may need additional instructional support or assistance.
  • Files and notifies Director if parents must be notified immediately.
  • Serves as a resource person for practicum students, ELC staff, and Parents.
  • Provides continuity to the program essential for all children.
  • Supervises student lunch.
  • Responsible for well being of every child in the ELC .
  • Greets each child and parent upon arrival/departure in the ELC .
  • Responsible for paperwork getting to appropriate areas: parents or to ELC personnel, including notices, letters, lunch reports, and sign in sheets.
  • Maintains equipment in the ELC ; notifies the Director if something is damaged or needs to be replaced.Oversees assessment documentation for each child and securely houses this documentation in the Coordinator’s office.
  • Inventories and maintains the supply lists in the ELC ; notifies Director about needed supplies including paper products, snacks, and drinks.
  • Provides tours of the ELC facilities.
  • Assists Director with all Field Trips and special events on campus.
  • Attends and contributes to weekly planning meetings with Director.Maintains confidentiality of all information on ELC students, practicum students, and ELC staff.
  • Coordinates student participation in weekly newsletter and distributes to parents.
  • Maintains the bulletin boards in the ELC .
  • Collaborates with professionals and assists in research practices applicable to the center.

  • Knowledge of the instructional principles and practices of the department
  • Knowledge of NAEYC accreditation standards and professional ethics
  • Knowledge of Early Childhood environments
  • Knowledge of Alabama State Standards for Preschool
  • Knowledge of assessment best practices
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
  • Knowledge and insights gained from the exploration of his/her area of specialization
  • Knowledge of functions, operations, and/or maintenance of instructional equipment being used
  • Knowledge of acceptable advising techniques and practices
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations
  • Knowledge of applicable institutional practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable University practices and procedures
  • Interpersonal skills

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Alabama State Department of Education Teaching Certificate in Early Childhood or Early Childhood Special Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field required.
  • At least three (3) years of related experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree preferred.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.
