The Positive Ageing: Psychology and Health Research Stream

The Positive Ageing: Psychology and Health Research Stream sits within the Sage Social Ageing Futures Lab in the School of Arts and Humanities. The research team includes Associate Professor Eyal Gringart, Senior Lecturer Dr Deirdre Drake, and Lecturers Dr Li Ann Leow, Dr Trish Cain, and Dr Shaun Markovic.

The Study

Population ageing is evident in all developed and many developing countries and commentaries on this trend are often conflicting. In Australia, there are reports that Australians are living longer and healthier lives than ever before. Accompanying such reports, however, are alarms over the economic resources required to sustain the aging population. Given the current diverging social discourse, it is important to understand more about what Australians think and how they feel about ageing and about older people in general.

The Ageing Australia Study was designed to capture an overview of attitudes towards ageing and older people among different generational groups in Australia. Data were collected on five attitude measures, plus a range of demographic variables from approximately 800 participants.

The Research Assistant Role

The Positive Ageing: Psychology and Health research stream are looking for support with analysis of the data from the Ageing Australia Study and preparation of related manuscripts for peer review publications.

We are looking for someone to:

Prepare the data set, including creating scale and subscale scores.

Conduct preliminary data analysis, including descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (e.g., correlation and ANOVA).

Present the results, including preparation of tables, in APA 7 format.

Archival research and annotated bibliographies of relevant sources.

Required Skills

Experience in Data analysis, preferably SPSS, as well as in literature searches and summarising.

Time Available

75 hours (@ $53.97 per hour) are available for this role at HEW Level 5.

The hours worked is flexible, although it is expected that the work would be completed within 4-6 weeks from commencement.

Authorship opportunities are available for subsequent publications.

If interested, please contact Associate Professor Eyal Gringart at: e.gringart@ecu.edu.au
