Evening Event Assistant (5 posts)
About the role
You will support the Events, Catering and Security teams in delivering a wide range of events to a consistently high standard within the Ashmolean Museum. You will play a key role in the set-up, delivery and break-down of events, ensuring the safety of guests, staff and the museum’s collections at all times.
You will provide excellent customer service, welcoming and assisting guests in a friendly, professional and approachable manner. You will invigilate galleries during events, helping to safeguard the building and its contents, while also ensuring that visitors have an enjoyable and safe experience.
You will assist with event operations, including moving furniture and equipment, setting up event spaces, and maintaining high standards of presentation and cleanliness throughout. You will work closely with colleagues, catering partners and suppliers to ensure events run smoothly and in line with health and safety requirements.
You will also be expected to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations, support evacuation procedures if required, and follow all relevant policies and training provided.
This is a paid as claimed, variable hours post and the hours are anticipated to be flexible in line with event requirements, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
About You
You will be a proactive and reliable individual with a strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service, demonstrating professionalism, approachability and attention to detail in all interactions. You will have excellent communication skills and be confident engaging with a wide range of people, including visitors, colleagues and external partners.
You will be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, showing initiative while also responding positively to direction and feedback. You will have good organisational and time management skills, ensuring punctuality and reliability in attending scheduled shifts and completing tasks to a high standard.
You will be comfortable undertaking physical aspects of the role, including manual handling, standing for extended periods, and moving equipment safely. You will demonstrate a calm and confident approach to problem solving, including the ability to manage challenging situations or conflict in a professional and sensitive manner.
Experience in events, hospitality or a customer-facing environment would be advantageous, and you will be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and short-notice shifts as required.
