As Executive Director, Digital & Technology, you will be at the forefront of enterprise-wide technology strategy and transformation across RMIT’s Australian and international operations. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer & Vice President, you will be a key member of the Operations Leadership Team, responsible for aligning technology strategy with RMIT’s ambitious institutional priorities and global mission.

You will lead Information Technology Services (ITS), providing strategic oversight of digital platforms, infrastructure, cyber security, data and emerging technologies that support teaching, research, staff and student experience and university operations. Your leadership will enable secure, sustainable and future-ready digital environments that empower staff and students across RMIT’s global footprint.

This role requires a strategic and influential technology executive with deep expertise in digital transformation, IT governance and emerging technologies. You will champion the responsible adoption of technologies such as AI, cloud, advanced analytics and immersive technologies, while embedding digital inclusion, ethical practice and sustainability into technology decision-making.

Working in close partnership with academic, research and professional leaders, you will foster a collaborative and agile technology culture, build high-performing teams, and ensure technology investments deliver measurable impact. You will also represent technology priorities at senior governance forums, advocating for innovation, resilience and long-term digital capability.

Key Outcomes Include:

  • Deliver an enterprise-wide technology and digital transformation strategy aligned to RMIT’s strategic ambitions, fostering innovation and long-term value creation.
  • Strengthen cyber security, digital risk management, data governance, and responsible technology use to enable secure and trusted innovation.
  • Advance digital inclusion, accessibility, and equitable access to technology, embedding inclusive design principles across digital platforms and services.
  • Enable innovative learning, research, and hybrid work environments through the effective adoption of emerging technologies and modern digital capabilities.
  • Build a high-performing, future-ready technology organisation, promoting a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive service excellence, operational resilience, and sustainable IT practices, ensuring technology services are reliable, scalable, and responsive to stakeholder needs.

Essential Criteria

  • Proven executive leadership experience driving large-scale technology and digital transformation in complex organisations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in IT strategy, governance, cyber security, and emerging technologies, with the ability to translate innovation into practical outcomes.
  • Highly developed communication, influencing, advocacy and stakeholder engagement capabilities, including the ability to build alignment, gain buy-in, and clearly articulate complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Experience leading organisational and cultural change, inspiring teams and stakeholders to adopt new ways of working.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline; postgraduate or executive qualifications desirable.
