Job Title: Extension Educator, Family & Consumer Sciences - Brown County
Department: FAES | Highland County
This position is located in Brown County, Ohio. This position is a term position and will be for a period of three years. Brown County seeks a professional that can focus programming in the areas of healthy relationships, healthy people, and healthy finances.
The Ohio State University Extension (OSUE) seeks an Educator to work collaboratively with county, and state teams of OSUE professionals and with local agency and organization leaders and volunteers. The Educator will be responsible for a broad range of basic to complex duties that could include but are not limited to: Providing guidance and/or leadership for Family and Consumer Sciences programming targeted to local and regional needs including: health, food and nutrition; consumer sciences including financial education; human and family development, relationships; and addictive issues and behaviors. Participate as a member of county, multi-county, and/or state Extension teams to further the overall mission, vision and values of both Ohio State University Extension and Family and Consumer Sciences. The Educator will ensure diversity among potential partners, clientele and learners and equal access to programs and facilities, without regard to age, race, creed, color, handicap, sex, sexual orientation, disability, national origin, marital status, arrest or non-program related conviction record. The Educator will:
- Utilize community assessment, both formal and informal, to identify local educational needs and community opportunities; based on results programming will be delivered utilizing the best dissemination method including but not limited to teaching in person, videos, on-line instruction, coaching, and interactive classes to groups and individuals comprised of adults and/or youth; may also convene and facilitate community coalitions focused on those needs and work with existing agencies and organizations.
- The Educator may be required to replicate and adhere to existing programs that meet the needs of their local community; will develop appropriately branded promotional materials, work with and/or lead committees and volunteers, and establish and maintain partnerships within the community supporting the achievement of the program goals; evaluate educational programs and dissemination methods, as well as, utilize existing evaluation instruments to evaluate the teaching effectiveness, program quality and impact of local programs.
- Form a Family and Consumer Sciences county advisory group to help provide guidance, needs assessments, and programming directions; report to and work with the County Extension Advisory Committee seeking direction of needed programming and community needs; foster a positive working partnership with the county SNAP-Ed (if present) program staff which can enhance and grow the overall FCS program offerings to have greater community impact.
- Participate in discussions with county peers concerning program funding and budget; may also be responsible for securing external funds to support local programming.
