Job Description
The Department of Engineering Technology at Norfolk State University seeks candidates for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor in Architectural Drafting. The Department is fully accredited by the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering (ATMAE). We offer an associate in science degree in Architectural Drafting, and the bachelor’s in science degree in Construction Management Engineering Technology; Computer Engineering Technology; and Electronics Engineering Technology.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Architectural Drafting and Construction Management Engineering Technology, with an emphasis on both technical and studio-based instruction and research. Areas of priority include Architectural design, AutoCAD drafting, and studio-based learning experiences, laboratory and studio activities, maintain equipment and facilities for Building Codes and Specifications, Construction Problem Analysis, Planning, and Scheduling, Organization and Supervision of Construction Projects, Surveying, Methods of Construction, and Cost Estimation and Project Management.
Develop and sustain partnerships with the construction and architectural design industries to ensure student access to internships, field trips, professional development opportunities and provide mentorship for student chapters of ABC (Associated Builders and Contractors) and NAHB (National Association of Home Builders). Contribute to program and curriculum development and with the Construction Management Program’s Industrial Advisory Board, participate in program assessment & accreditation Advise and mentor students to promote a student-centered learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications
- A terminal degree (Ed.D., Ph.D., or equivalent) in Architecture, Construction Management, or a closely related field from a regionally or internationally accredited/government-certified institution.
- Demonstrate subject-area expertise relevant to architecture, construction management, structural systems and design, with strength in studio-based architectural drafting, AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, estimation, and project management.
Additional Considerations
- Priority will be given to candidates with expertise and teaching/research experience in the studio-oriented, architectural design and drafting, and applied areas.
- Demonstrated experience with ABET accreditation and curriculum development.
- Familiarity with online teaching platforms (e.g., Blackboard or equivalent).
- Evidence of successful grant writing and scholarly activity.
- A minimum of three years of professional architectural or construction industry experience.
- Ability to build and sustain strong relationships with professionals in the construction and design industries to support program improvement.
- Strong communication skills (oral, written, and interpersonal) with a demonstrated student-oriented mindset.
- Commitment to collegiality, collaboration, and departmental advancement.
