Job Summary
The Animal Science department at LBCC offers a range of courses including Animal Science, Equine Science, Horse Management, Animal Nutrition, Feeds and Feeding, Animal Genetics, Livestock Judging, Artificial Insemination, Swine Production, Computer Applications in Agriculture, and other related classes. The faculty member must develop, plan, and present organized lectures, laboratory activities, and out-of-class assignments in accordance with approved course outlines. The position includes oversight of the college Horse Center and may require some teaching during evenings or weekends and service on various college committees. The department emphasizes excellence in instruction and encourages professional self-development.
Required Qualifications
Requires Master’s degree in Animal Science or closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience teaching at the community college or university level is desirable. Industry experience is desirable, such as horse training, horse breeding, and equine facility management experience. Experience working and communicating with equine industry professionals. Demonstrated evidence of successful work experience and/or special projects with a diverse student population is preferred.
Essential Duties
- Imparts excitement and enthusiasm to the teaching of Equine Science and Horse Management.
- Prepares course materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, handouts, and evaluates and grades students’ exams and assignments. Meets with students outside of class to assist them with being successful college students.
- Plans, develops, and delivers course material in appropriate modalities (in-person, online, etc.). Incorporates relevant technology into instruction, such as the LMS Canvas, and other technologies that promote student learning.
- Develops and administers instruments for assessing student progress and competence such as exams, lab work and written exercises.
- Develops or adapts laboratory exercises designed to engage all levels of students.
- Practices and enforces departmental approved safety regulations in the laboratories and promotes good, safe laboratory practices and technique.
- Monitors equipment at lab stations and verifies that all equipment is left in good condition at the end of each laboratory section.
- Works effectively with students and staff of various cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and ages and successfully interacts with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of an education team.
- Communicates effectively in oral and written English.
- Monitor the budget at the College’s Horse Center and advise the SEM division dean accordingly.
- Work closely with Instructional Specialists. Provide day-to-day guidance related to their work.
- Communicates and collaborates effectively with other faculty and staff to continually improve and expand the agricultural sciences programs.
- Keeps accurate grade and attendance records.
- Advises students on program curriculum, transfer to four-year colleges and universities, and professional career opportunities.
- Establishes and maintains strong community partnerships. Serves on the Agricultural Sciences advisory committee.
- Inspires and mentors the co-curricular Equestrian Team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Salary Information
The 2025-26 starting salary range for this position is $68,031 – $78,068 for a 168-day schedule. Salary will be prorated for remaining days in the contract. Click here to view the current agreement.
