Position Title: Faculty - Therapeutic Massage

Classification Title: Full Time Faculty

Position Summary: The Therapeutic Massage Faculty is a full-time faculty member who is responsible for conducting assigned day and/or evening classes of instruction. The Therapeutic Massage Faculty participates in maintaining the curriculum in a comprehensive, current, and employer-responsive manner.

The responsibilities of the Therapeutic Massage Faculty include: conducting assigned classes of instruction; maintaining program equipment, safety, and security; making recommendations concerning curriculum development and course offerings; assisting with the orientation and training of new faculty members; developing and maintaining an effective “network” with business and industry representatives in the service area; assisting in the recruitment of new students for the program and the advisement and placement of students. The instructor also will be responsible for other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Current North Carolina License in Massage and Body Work Therapy (LMBT).
  • 2+ years of teaching Therapeutic Massage AND 2+ years of experience in Therapeutic Massage OR
  • Certificate, Diploma or Degree from an accredited college or university AND 5+ years of experience in Therapeutic Massage
  • Training in teaching methods including presentation skills, lesson planning, classroom management, and instructional strategies for adult learners

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Associate degree from regionally accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Experience with instructional technology.
  • Familiarity with North Carolina Massage Board rules and compliance procedures.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with technology in the classroom, including e-books.
  • School management applications for keeping grades, performances and time clock management for students.

Duty and Responsibility:

  1. Successfully prepare, manage, and deliver course content in order to achieve course objectives, accommodate diverse learning styles, and meet student learning outcomes.
  2. Actively engage students and provide prompt feedback in an objective, respectful, and effective manner.
  3. Update, communicate and follow course syllabus content in accordance with directions provided and administrative guidance.
  4. Work collaboratively with the Colleges support services to identify and address the students academic support needs.
  5. Utilize College technology for the delivery of instruction and completion of operational processes; this includes but is not limited to the Colleges learning management system, email and calendaring solution, document management system(s), student information system, and employee portals.
  6. Meet deadlines, including maintaining and submitting accurate class records, employee records/requests, and other assigned tasks.
  7. When applicable, ensure laboratories are appropriately stocked with required supplies and equipment is in safe operating order.
  8. Support student mentoring, advising, registration and recruitment efforts, as appropriate or required.
  9. Participate in professional development opportunities (selected or assigned) in order to enhance and apply knowledge/skills within the discipline, to effectively utilize required course technology and College applications, and to maintain licensures (as applicable).
  10. Facilitate a positive, student-centered, and professional environment among students, faculty and staff.
  11. Participate in College meetings, events, and committees as appropriate or required.
  12. Attend and participate in the annual graduation ceremony.
  13. Other duties as assigned.
