The Film & Video Equipment Coordinator oversees the use and maintenance of all film and video production equipment (cameras, lights, microphones, tripods, etc.) owned and used by the Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts. This position supports undergraduate and graduate students and curriculum, which spans the theatre, film studies and moving image production majors and minors, and television classes; manages the film and video equipment cage, student checkout systems and serves as the primary asset manager for department equipment; instructs students in the proper handling and operation of the film and video equipment and provides guidance and technical support to faculty, students, and staff; maintains all equipment in excellent working condition through regular inspection, testing, and preventive maintenance; creates and maintains inventory tracking systems and inventory reporting for smooth day to day operations; monitors equipment returns, notifies the supervisor of missing items or repeated policy violations, and communicates with students, faculty, and staff about overdue or missing equipment; researches and recommends equipment purchases, communicates with vendors regarding orders, and confirms safe arrival and functionality of products; tracks usage to estimate equipment lifespan, evaluates for repair or replacement, and oversees repair orders and updates to equipment records; performs purchases for the Moving Image Production (MIP) area, ensuring acquisitions align with curricular needs, departmental budgets, and university purchasing policies; performs firmware and software updates and troubleshoots equipment issues, often on an urgent basis. Ensures all equipment and classroom systems are functional and up to date; consults with faculty and students regarding equipment needs based on curricular goals, production requirements, and available resources; develops and implements best practices and standard operating procedures for the departments film equipment, working closely with the department Chair, Moving Image Production (MIP) faculty and the Soundstage Studio Manager; hires, trains, and supervises student assistants; reviews and approves work schedules; provides department orientation, ongoing guidance, and developmental training for student employees; monitors project progress and student worker budgets to ensure funds are used according to plan; creates and maintains department technical documentation such as contents lists, databases, and user guides, and keeps accurate, organized records of manufacturer manuals for faculty, staff and students; and interacts professionally with all internal and external customers using strong interpersonal skills.

Minimum Required Education and Experience:

High School diploma or GED or equivalent experience. 4 years of relevant experience required.

Additional Desired Education and Experience:

Bachelors degree and 4 years of relevant experience in film or related field. Exceptional knowledge and understanding of film production equipment, including multiple professional camera models, cinema lenses, field recorders, mixers, microphones, field lighting, studio lighting, switchers, and other miscellaneous equipment. Previous experience in digital cinema production, higher education, people management, customer service, student relations, software systems that manage equipment inventory, student equipment reservations, and/or general production management. Demonstrated organizational skills, proactivity, and strong customer service orientation. Solid understanding of the film production process from pre-production through post-production. Previous experience working in an academic setting with various constituents.

Additional Job Information:

This position involves lifting and transporting equipment weighing up to 50 lbs., ensuring proper storage, inspection, and readiness of gear, as well as performing bending and stooping movements throughout regular work hours. The role also involves the ability to navigate the work area as needed, including extended periods of standing, moving equipment between storage and MIP facilities, and occasionally climbing ladders.
