Tohono O’odham Community College
is seeking a detail-oriented and service-focused Financial Aid Technician to perform a variety of services in the financial
aid areas for students and provide support to the Financial Aid program. This is a full-time, non-exempt position in the Student Services
Division.
Salary: $17 - $20 per hour
What You Will Do:
The Financial Aid Technician
plays a critical role in supporting students by processing aid and providing expert advising
- Advise students on Federal,
State, and institutional financial aid benefits and programs. - Explain applicable rules, academic progress policies, and
institutional policies regarding the use of aid. - Adhere to strict confidentiality of student records and finances in compliance
with FERPA. - Collect, evaluate, and verify financial aid data and documents submitted by students.
- Process student
financial aid and/or scholarship award packets. - Verify student eligibility for applicable Federal and State aid programs.
- Apply scholarships and view student's ISIRs in PowerFAIDS, and run reports from the software.
- Prepare a variety of
correspondence, including award letters and applications. - Perform administrative support activities, such as updating and
maintaining forms, records, and data in external systems. - Research current State and Federal regulations to stay up-to-date and
determine the application of regulations to specific student circumstances. - Work with other tribal entities such as Scholarship
Offices, Higher Education Offices, Workforce, and the Department of Economics.
What You Will Bring:
Candidates should have a thorough knowledge of student financial aid programs at the Federal, State, Tribal, and institutional levels.
Key knowledge and skills include:
- Knowledge of financial aid procedures and practices, and financial aid advising
practices. - Ability to interpret and apply applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and
standards. - Proven ability to provide excellent customer service and advise students, faculty, staff, and/or parents.
- Ability to prioritize and effectively handle multiple projects with attention to detail while under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Competency in using a computer and related software applications, and knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or two-year technical certificate in any field.
- Two to three years of higher education experience.
Licensing:
- Valid state Driver’s license
with a clean driving record. - Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
Preferred
Qualifications:
- Knowledge and understanding of the history and of contemporary issues facing Native people.
- Ability to speak and understand O’odham and/or Spanish.
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Typical
work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The role may require evening and weekend shifts. - The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (typical office or administrative work).
Physical Demands:
- The work is classified as Sedentary (exerting up to 10 pounds occasionally).
- Requires close visual acuity for preparing and analyzing data, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, and visual
inspection. - Physical activities include reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, talking, hearing, and repetitive
motion.
