Food Service Worker - (Part-Time) Whitman College

Overview

Campus Dining invites applications for a part time food service worker in our Whitman/Butler College, a residential college at Princeton University. The food service worker is responsible for cold food preparation, setting up dining areas, serving food, bussing tables, garbage disposal, ware-washing, and sanitation procedures.

Responsibilities

As a food service worker, you will:

  • Become familiar with food preparation procedures and regular use of standardized recipes
  • Prepare the service area prior to each meal period
  • Serve customers and prepare items as requested at food stations
  • Maintain the kitchen and food stations in a clean, safe fashion
  • Observe and record food and equipment temperatures in accordance with HACCP policies
  • Break down and store food items at the end of each day’s final meal period
  • Operate the dish machine and return clean dishes to the appropriate areas
  • Watch for safety/sanitary hazards or malfunctioning equipment
  • Assist in daily, weekly, and other periodic cleaning and maintenance duties
  • Observe all New Jersey State Health Codes and Regulations

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with food service procedures
  • Capable of working quickly and efficiently during rush periods
  • Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Moderate physical fitness — as a food service worker, you must possess the following:
    • moderate physical agility, full range of motion, and ability to maintain balance
    • the ability to stand or walk up to two hours at one time for a total of 6–8 hours per day
    • the ability to sit for no more than two hours during an 8-hour day, except for cashiers and card checkers who may sit for 2–4 hours at once for a total of 4–6 hours per day
    • the ability to lift or carry up to 30 pounds from the floor to overhead frequently (34–66% of the workday)
    • the ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds from the floor to chest height occasionally (less than 33% of the workday)
    • the ability to push or pull using force up to 50 pounds occasionally (less than 33% of the workday)
    • the ability to use arms and hands for simple grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, or pulling with force up to five pounds continuously (67–100% of the workday), and up to 30 pounds frequently (34–66% of the workday)
    • the ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb, and reach occasionally (less than 33% of the work day)
    • the ability to work under a range of temperature conditions (e.g., kitchens, walk-in refrigerators, freezers, etc.)

Work Schedule

3:15p-8:45p Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday with Wed-Sat off. Food service worker is a biweekly paid position. Flexibility with scheduling, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays is required. Schedules may be changed due to business needs and work outside the unit may be required. This is an essential personnel position.
