Football Performance Assistant Director, Sport Science
Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Associate Athletic Director, Football Sports Medicine and the Head Football Strength & Conditioning Coach, the Football Performance Assistant Director, Sport Science will assume leadership and responsibility for the planning, development, implementation, evaluation and management of the performance sport science program provided to the football student-athletes. This position leads football research initiatives to identify critical qualities and metrics related to enhancing athlete performance, health and safety, and talent identification. The role oversees the delivery and implementation of sport science services across all integrated support team (IST) disciplines and is capable of influencing athlete performance planning, resources, and organizational processes through data collection, coordination, and analysis. In addition, the Assistant Director, Sport Science possesses a broad understanding of IST specialties (i.e., strength and conditioning, sports medicine, mental performance, etc.), in order to effectively provide leadership and support in a collaborative high-performance sport environment. The role also Provide integrated nutrition support to optimize health, body composition, recovery, and performance of football student-athletes in collaboration with the Director of Football Nutrition and the Integrated Support Team (IST). The role requires frequent interaction with athletes, sport coaches and strength staff. In addition to the ability to develop and provide educational resources as needed. Incumbent will work with the Football Strength & Conditioning Staff, and Football Athletic Training Staff to integrate their work into the UCLA Football program.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 1-year experience as a Sport Science in the collegiate setting. (Required)
- 5 years relevant work experience w/ high-level sport or tactical athlete populations. (Preferred)
- College or NFL experience is strongly desired. (Preferred)
- Must have a thorough understanding of NCAA Division I Football and working knowledge of how sport science integrates into the daily operations of the Football Performance Model. (Required)
- Must have the ability to analyze situations, identify problems, and implement solutions impartially and fairly. Ability to make decisions on immediate problems within prescribed scope of authority, based on knowledge of policies and procedures, including pertinent NCAA rules and regulations. (Required)
- Ability to prioritize assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in assignments, deadlines, completing requirements, and workload. Skill in organizing material, information, and people in a systematic way to optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort. (Required)
- Skill in obtaining body composition measurements and interpretation of the measurement to athletes, athletic trainers and coaches. (Required)
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, professionals, and administrators. (Required)
- Proven skills in negotiating, exchanging ideas, information, and opinions with others to formulate policies and programs and/or arrive jointly at decisions, conclusions or solutions. (Required)
- Incumbent must have excellent writing and oral communication skills to communicate effectively at a variety of levels including officials of the NCAA and Big10, administrators, staff, and coaches. (Required)
- Demonstrated writing skills to complete concise, effective and grammatically correct reports, policy statements, procedures and correspondence. (Required)
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with culturally diverse students and staff; Skill at working as part of a team. (Required)
- Ability to evaluate research proposals, to analyze and articulate suitability and feasibility for implementation. (Required)
- Skill at managing shifting priorities and changing pace of workload; Skill at working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction. (Required)
- Knowledge and ability to comply with Conference and NCAA rules and regulations. (Required)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience. (Required)
- Master’s degree in exercise science, sports science, or related field. (Preferred)
- Must possess, upon hire, and maintain a valid CA noncommercial Class C License in accordance with the California (CA) Department of Motor Vehicles. (Required)
Special Conditions for Employment
- Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
- Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
- Driving Record: The position is subject to the California DMV "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
- CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
- Ability to work odd hours, including: nights, weekends and holidays as needed. (Required)
- 10% Ability to travel for position duties & tasks as needed.
