Job Summary:

The Education team in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is seeking a collaborative, service-oriented, motivated, learner-centered professional to join our team as a full­ time Graduate Medical Education Manager. This position is critical to the education mission of our department and manages all aspect of the residency program including, but not limited to meeting program accreditation and requirements; coordinating curriculum assessments and evaluations; overseeing recruitment, orientation, and support of residents throughout the training; processing and monitoring expenditures; making data-informed decisions and program improvements; communicating with internal and external regulatory agencies; and other duties. We are pleased to offer a flexible work environment and free parking.

  • This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
  • This position is full or part-time, 80%-100%.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a thorough understanding of accreditation program requirements and related policies, regulatory requirements, and hospital and program policies to provide expert consult to the Program Director to maintain accreditation and compliance with regulatory bodies and pertinent policies
  • Collaborates with the Program Director to assess curriculum and evaluations, developing the structure and delivery mechanism, and maintaining accurate records of curriculum, evaluations, and participation
  • Regularly attends monthly program coordinator meetings and GME educational offerings. Collaborates with other colleagues to develop best practices, and serves as an administrative reviewer of other GME programs. Should regularly attend national GME or specialty conference(s)
  • Maintains the resident/fellow and program expenditures. Advises fiscal leadership on program budgetary needs and monitors program expenses within budget constraints
  • Serves as the primary contact for the program, liaising with those directly associated with the program, the Institutional GME Office, and regulatory agencies. Advises residents/fellows, program staff/faculty of program and institutional policies and procedures
  • Provides guidance for resident/fellow recruitment, credentialing, and onboarding to maintain compliance with regulatory bodies and hospital policies
  • May exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees
  • Responsible for ensuring resident/fellow and program compliance with policy, accreditation, and regulatory requirements and that appropriate documentation is maintained

Compensation:

The starting salary for the position is $71,994; but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience effectively engaging and building relationships with learners, faculty, and staff across a range of roles and program needs.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to effectively manage varied ongoing projects, priorities, and duties.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, interacting with residents, physicians, department staff, accrediting and compliance agencies, and external partners and organizations.
  • Work effectively as a team member and be comfortable with some task ambiguity.
  • Ability to exercise judgement appropriately.
  • Ability to take initiative, coordinate with others, and seek solutions to problems.
  • Comfortable multitasking and working with interruptions.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Strong computing skills and familiarity with virtual meeting and collaboration platforms (e.g. Google Drive, Zoom, Teams, or related platforms).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in higher education, academic medicine, or any relevant education or training setting.
  • Flexibility to accommodate frequently changing priorities in an ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively under general supervision.
  • Creative and flexible approach.
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a clear and organized manner in both verbal and written forms.
  • At least two years of exceptional learner-centered service experience related to student affairs, higher education administration, or health care.
  • Committed to quality through continuous improvement.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree Preferred.
