Graduate Research Academic Assistant (GRAA)

About the Role

Inspire and support students while honing your teaching and research skills. As a GRAA, you will play a part in enhancing the student experience and outcomes through innovative teaching practices in classroom settings in both undergraduate and graduate programmes. You will help design and deliver impactful subjects, explore leading-edge educational methods, and connect academic learning with industry relevance. Alongside teaching, you’ll broaden your research expertise by contributing to projects within one of the faculty’s research centres.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching and marking, preparing tutorials, attending briefings, and participating in academic meetings.
  • Participating in tutor training, undertaking professional development, and coordinating subject activities.
  • Conducting research activities such as preparing literature reviews, collating data for grants, and designing surveys and questionnaires.
  • Liaising with researchers, drafting ethics applications, and synthesising and analysing data.
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching and research skills.

Teaching Areas include:

  • Initial Teacher Education
  • Social Transformation
  • Language and Literacy Education
  • Others as required

Who We Are Looking For

You are a passionate educator and/or researcher and have the ability to contribute positively, both individually and as part of a team, to educating, inspiring and supporting students and researchers. You also have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills and excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage one’s own time effectively, administer multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.

All currently enrolled PhD or Doctor of Education researchers at the Faculty of Education, University of Melbourne who have had their candidature confirmed are eligible to apply for this position.

  • Graduate researchers with less than 24 months remaining in their candidature are still encouraged to apply

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This role requires current valid work rights for Australia.
