Position Highlights

The University of Arizona's Steward Observatory invites you to apply for the role of Graphic Artist. This position will be providing support in the preparation and standardization of project presentations, documents, and associated materials (such as conference posters, proposals, and publication submissions). The role also involves ensuring that all program documents follow defined formatting and content requirements, sponsor directives, and proper document control procedures. The creation of custom graphics, figures, and illustrations for project materials is also part of the functions of the role. Having experience working with large teams and the ability to interact with individuals with a range of experience is needed.

Candidates working anywhere in the U.S. may be considered for a remote assignment. If you are selected for this position and are employed to work remotely from outside of Arizona, your overtime-exemption status will depend on the laws of the state where you perform your work. For employees working outside of Arizona, you may be hired as an hourly employee in accordance with state laws. A comparable hourly rate range would be: $28.56 - $35.70 . These changes would not affect the position duties as outlined.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members in different roles, including program managers, the principal investigator, engineers (both senior and early career), and academic researchers (students, postdocs, and professors) in order to ensure that their presentations and documentation align with program and sponsor standards.
  • Preparation and formatting of technical program materials, including presentations and written documents in programs such as Word, PowerPoint and LaTeX, as well as establishing standards and templates for various document types and supporting staff in developing materials.
  • Work with strict standards, including specific guidance on the desired format and appearance of materials for reviews and public-facing presentations (such as conferences).
  • This position will be verifying that program materials are compliant with proper document-control procedures; ensuring consistency with labeling and version control; and updating version control documentation as necessary. This includes readability, uniformity of appearance in order to align with materials being provided by other contributors, and a desire for materials to be accessible to those without extensive technical backgrounds.
  • Applying design fundamentals, this position will be creating and editing custom figures, images, and illustrations as needed for program materials.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with document creation in PowerPoint, Word, LaTeX, and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Experience with version-control platforms, such as GitHub.
  • Experience with creating presentations and reports for space missions or other large-scale, multi-year efforts.
  • Experience working with teams across multiple projects.
