Job Description
The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History Graphic Designer is a mission critical position that will be responsible for the creation of graphic design packages and illustrations that integrate across all museum departments, including public relations and marketing, education and community outreach, exhibits, visitor services, and collections and research. This position creates designs that convey the museum's mission and vision. This full-time 12-month staff position will report to the Assistant Director and may supervise student employees.
Essential Duties:
- Performs professional graphic design and illustration services for print and digital media, and permanent and temporary exhibitions.
- Performs desktop publishing and graphic design of visual communications and web design.
- Formulates original design responses using appropriate media, materials, tools, technology, platforms, and techniques to create visual communications.
- Applies multiple ideation and analytical strategies throughout the design process.
- Incorporates exemplary design principles (composition, balance, hierarchy, harmony, and contrast).
- Aligns graphic approach and content with industry best practices and unit guidelines.
- Employs effective composition and color theory that consider focal point, eye path, and value.
- Ensures projects are completed in a timely manner and on budget.
- May assist with the installation of exhibit graphics or in the set up and tear down of temporary exhibitions, as necessary.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Applicant to provide either a physical or online portfolio with examples of past graphic work.
Job Requirements
Required Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree, AND: 12 months working as a professional graphic designer.
Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 60 months of related experience.
Skills: Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information. Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines. Able to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives. Knowledge of graphic design principles. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications.

Advertised Physical Requirements: Physical: Ability to engage in repetitive motions. Sit for prolonged periods. Environmental: Standard office environment.
Departmental Preferences: Creation of designs for promotional, educational, and museum outreach materials. Develops compelling visual content for museum-wide promotional efforts, including logos, brochures, newsletters, flyers, posters, annual reports, and web-based media. Creates engaging print and digital materials to support educational programs and community outreach initiatives, including illustrations and graphics tailored for youth and adult audiences across onsite, offsite, and online platforms. Collaborates with external exhibit vendors and marketing teams to design public-facing materials for temporary exhibits, ensuring alignment with contractual and brand guidelines. Development, printing and installation of exhibit graphics. Works with vendors for producing material needs for the exhibits (e.g., vinyls and banners). Creates in-house exhibit identities and branding working with curators and staff. Creates physical labels and exhibit specimen specific/scientific information text panels, either printed or produced with a laser engraver. Experience in the use of a large format printer. Experience in the use of a laser engraver.
