Graphic Designer
Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Communications Manager and in collaboration with Faculty and Staff, the Graphic Designer conceptualizes and designs creative solutions for digital, print, and video projects on behalf of the Mead Witter School of Music.
The ideal candidate will be a team player expected to actively engage and contribute ideas related to the school's branding and design efforts. Strong design, layout, and illustration skills, as well as the ability to create on-brand, compelling visual assets will be critical to success.
- Create and develop visual identity for printed and digital material, including event posters and programs, print and digital advertising, recruitment brochures and pamphlets, social media, video, and newsletters
- Collaborate with Faculty and Staff to identify and meet areas of design need
- Provide creative solutions for design projects supporting special events (e.g. Open house, conferences, recruitment events, etc.)
- Provide basic project management of specific, design-related tasks
- Coordinate photography and video sessions

- Applies creative expertise within established brand and style guidelines
- Answers questions and provides information and problem resolution options to clients and stakeholders
- Schedules logistics, secures resources, organizes, and monitors art production projects adhering to established timelines and expectations
- Works collaboratively with other creative professionals, engages in and responds to creative feedback, manages project workflow and timing, maintains files, and follows established work unit processes
- Analyzes and identifies cost effective options to meet project requirements
- Creates, designs, and produces artwork per project specifications through various mediums

With 33 faculty, 26 full- and part-time instructional staff, and 24 administrative and technical staff, the Mead Witter School of Music is a comprehensive, leading school of music serving approximately 360 undergraduate majors and graduate students in BA, BS, BM, MM, MA, DMA, and PhD degree programs. The School of Music is located in the Humanities Building on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with performance and rehearsal facilities in historic Music Hall and the state-of-the-art Hamel Music Center.
Compensation
This is a 12 month, part time position at 56% FTE, which equates to about 22.4 hours per week. The starting rate of pay is $48,107 (12 months), with the potential for highly qualified candidates to earn more. Actual pay will be prorated to reflect a part time, 56% FTE schedule.

Required Qualifications
- Previous professional graphic design experience in an educational, agency, or business, setting
- Strong knowledge of graphic design principles and techniques and understanding of typography and font usage
- High level of proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects
- Experience with prepress and print production techniques
- Advanced design skills and a strong portfolio that demonstrates creativity, originality, and results-driven marketing or advertising projects
- Ability to develop and implement innovative design solutions across different platforms, including websites, social media, etc.
- Ability to work under time constraints and meet assigned deadlines
- Work well independently and in teams
- Flexible in accepting new design-related responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or familiarity with higher education communications and marketing
Education
Associate Degree in graphic design or related field required, Bachelor's Degree preferred
