POSITION SUMMARY

The Spirit Head Coach/Assistant Director of Recreation for Club Sports is responsible for conducting a comprehensive, high quality Spirt Program (Cheer, Dance, & Mascot) and direct the operations, growth and advancement of all club sports teams at Le Moyne College within the guidelines of all rules and policies established by the department. This includes assessing, implementing, and evaluating strategies to enhance team and individual athletic and academic performance in accordance with the stated mission of Le Moyne College and the Athletic Department. This Head Coach is charged with creating an environment advancing the “Inside the L” culture of wholistic personal growth and development of the student-athlete.

Daily duties and tasks which require exercising discretion and independent judgment consisting of 60% instructional and 40% recruitment/administrative/fiscal management tasks split 50% with club sports and 50% with sprit program development.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coaching and Team Development (Spirit):

  • Assess, implement and evaluate strategies that enhances team and individual performance.
  • Provide timely and constructive individualized feedback for participant improvement.
  • Prepare individuals and the team for events, focused on high-level performance and sportsmanship.

Recreation (Club Sports):

  • Attend campus student events to promote and market club sports
  • Attend campus enrollment events to market recreation activities to prospective students and families
  • Supervise the club sports council
  • Maintain the club sports website, rosters and competition information
  • Work directly with club sports teams on the administrative aspects of club sport management such as
  • Regularly poll and survey the student body to understand current trends and demands in the club sport space

Game Management:

  • Works with appropriate personnel to determine your needs for the organization, coordination, and scheduling of all practices
  • Ensure spirit participants are on time and prepared for all assigned home events.

Fiscal Management:

  • Submits all budget requests, documentation, receipts and related forms and paperwork, according to existing policy and established deadlines.
  • Monitors all budgets as they relate to your program.
  • Stays within budget allocations. Account for all money related to the program, including fund raising, camps, clinics and special events.
  • Comply with College and department fiscal guidelines and policies.
  • Strategically award and monitor all grants in aid to best leverage the target enrollment goals

Enrollment Management- Recruiting and Retention:

  • Assists leading and supporting the College Enrollment Management priorities through partnership, participation, and meeting goals with Enrollment Management initiatives.
  • Identify, recruit, and retain talented prospective students who will embrace the core values of Le Moyne College.
  • Assists the department with its gender equity planning and the satisfaction of all Title IX legislation by striving to attain goals related to any applicable enrollment management initiatives within your particular program.
  • Promotes and offer available experiential learning/internship/work study opportunities to incoming prospects and/or general students, which are developed and managed either by the department or through your program.
  • Responds to requests for information from prospective students, coaches, parents, and/or friends of prospective student-athletes.
  • Solicits information from and distribute information to eligible prospective student-athletes and coaches and or parents or friends of prospective student-athletes.
  • Develops and distributes appropriate recruiting materials, publications and information to interested prospective student-athletes.
  • Follows up with appropriate offers of scholarships in a timely manner.
  • Maintains accurate and comprehensive recruiting records of all prospective student athletes.

Academic Support:

  • Provides the appropriate academic support, assistance, motivation and environment for sprit participants.
  • Maintains familiarity with appropriate academic resource and assistance programs available to student-athletes.
  • Monitors the academic progress of your participants from current class work to graduation.
  • Promote the importance of academic achievement and life skills development.

College and Department Service:

  • It is expected that employees have a willingness and commitment to be broadly engaged and in service to the College as demonstrated through participation on committees and attendance at College functions/events.
  • It is expected that employees participate with department committees, as elected or assigned, to develop, evaluate and enhance department policy. Attendance at all departmental meetings, unless excused in advance by the AVP for Athletics, is expected while a commitment to the College's priorities and the department's goals and objectives are vital to the success of the position.
  • It is expected that employees complete all online educational and training modules required by the College (Cybersecurity training, Title IX/Diversity & Inclusion training, etc).
  • It is expected that employees are fully committed and engaged in advancing the department’s “Inside the L” culture.

Sports Information:

  • Responds to all information requests and work with the media, etc. according to guidelines and deadlines established by the Assistant Athletics Director for Athletic Communications.
  • Maintain club sport websites and marketing collateral with support of sports information .

Fund Raising

  • Head Coaches are expected to fully understand and support the College's policies and procedures, along with any departmental guidelines, for all fund-raising activities.
  • Reconciliation of all revenues and deposits should be handled in accordance with institutional and departmental policy.
  • Head Coaches are expected to fully support the Dolphin Athletic Association and its programming to engage key stakeholder groups of their respective program such as alumni and families/friends.

Community Service:

  • A commitment to community services is an important tenant of the College's mission and to that end it is anticipated that employees will be involved in various community activities as a representative of the Le Moyne College Athletics Department.
  • Identifies and cultivates a community partnership with a service-based organization to provide an impactful service experience for your student-athletes.

Supervision and Evaluation of Club Coaches:

  • Position is responsible for the supervision and evaluation of each club sport coach.
  • Successfully keep club coaches informed of all applicable rules, regulations, deadlines, meetings and/or other policies.
  • All staff members (including volunteers) must satisfy the hiring guidelines of the Department prior to assuming their respective duties.

Professional Development:

  • Opportunities to maintain and advance current understandings of techniques, strategies, theories, and regulations as they relate to the athletics industry are essential.
  • Attendance and participation in conferences is strongly encouraged if budget support is provided.

Supervisory Relationships:

For purpose of performance evaluations and most other official duties, the first level of contact for the Head Coach is with the Sport Administrator/Supervisor. Appeals of decisions are to be taken to the Assistant VP for Athletics and Recreation.

Functional Relationships/Secondary Sources:

All coaches are expected to work cooperatively with all members of the Athletics & Recreation Department (Administrators, Support Staff, Colleagues), and any other campus (admissions, housing, financial aid, maintenance, etc), or community office/agency that you might be involved with. Communications and required documentation should be handled in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree highly desirable.
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in the conduct of a collegiate level Spirit program with proven success in recruiting high quality student athletes and/or equivalent related experiences.
  • The successful candidate will be required to be First Aid/CPR/AED certified.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills needed.
