Health Research Technical Officer

Technical role within the School of Health Sciences

Full-time, ongoing position at our Hawthorn campus

HEW Level 6 salary + 17% super and staff benefits

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Health Research Technical Officer to join our Operations team within the School of Health Sciences at Swinburne University to provide technical support services across the School’s clinical and biomedical research facilities.

This role provides opportunities for both independent and collaborative work and is responsible for completing routine maintenance and quality assurance, maintaining equipment and consumables inventories, facilitating specialist waste disposal, providing induction and training to staff and student researchers, preparing technical documentation, performing basic laboratory procedures for the preparation of biospecimens, and assisting with collection and delivery of research data. 

You will work closely with the Clinical Research Nurse, and our staff and student researchers to ensure that the equipment, facilities and processes managed by our team are able to support the conduct of safe, high-quality, research. 

We are seeking candidates with solid technical and research knowledge, great time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks while adhering to established protocols and procedures. You will bring excellent communication skills and thrive in a collaborative environment, engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders across varying experience levels and areas of research interest.

About You

To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities: 

  • Experience working in or supporting clinical/human research or experience working in or supporting biomedical research or a related laboratory.
  • Proven ability to strictly adhere to protocols and procedures.
  • Experience performing equipment or facilities maintenance or quality assurance procedures.
  • Experience writing technical or instructional documents.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals, who may have varying levels of experience and expertise, and/or varying priorities associated with their roles.
  • Training and significant experience in phlebotomy would be highly desirable. 
  • Experience with regulatory requirements regarding clinical, pharmaceutical, or biomedical research is preferred. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health or life sciences, psychology, nursing, pharmacy, biomedical sciences or a related field.
  • Current ICH-GCP training certificate (or ability to obtain prior to commencement).
