About the Role:

Curtin University is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to join our People and Culture Business Partnering team. This pivotal role acts as a trusted adviser and partner to both academic and professional people leaders, providing expert strategic HR guidance and delivering people-focused solutions aligned with Curtin’s strategic goals.

As a HRBP, you will engage with an array of key stakeholders across the University to build strong partnerships, enable cultural excellence, and to lead strategic initiatives and activities including workforce planning, employee relations, performance management and change management.

Curtin is an innovative, global university known for its high-impact research, strong industry partnerships and its commitment to preparing students for jobs of the future. Your contribution will directly shape the employee experience and will support Curtin’s mission to be a global leader in education and research.

As a HR Business Partner, you will work within a collaborative, large People and Culture function, with a variety of expertise, including our generalists and our subject matter experts.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Building strong, consultative relationships with leaders to understand their strategic and operational goals, delivering tailored HR advice and support.
  • Partner with leaders on complex people matters including workforce planning, key cyclical activities, customised people initiatives and change initiatives.
  • Drive and implement people and culture strategies that support high performance, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide coaching and practical advice on an array of matters including performance management, leadership development, employee relations and engagement.
  • Develop and deliver innovative HR solutions, policies, and initiatives that support organisational priorities.
  • Interpret and provide expert guidance on enterprise agreements, HR policy and relevant employment legislation.
  • Drive tailored people and culture initiatives that are relevant to your respective portfolio areas, with targeted and measurable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with specialist HR teams (including Workplace Relations, Diversity & Inclusion, People Operations, Talent Acquisition, People Technology & Analytics, Employee Wellbeing, Global Mobility and Organisational Learning) to deliver integrated, customer-focused support.
  • Identify workforce trends and implement early intervention strategies to address potential issues such as absenteeism and excessive leave.
  • Support the end-to-end delivery of key HR projects, including change management and culture programs.

Who we are looking for/Selection Criteria:

  • Significant experience in a senior HR generalist position, (preferably 3+ years in a Business Partnering position), within a large and complex organisation.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic HR advice across a broad range of issues and cyclical activities (predominantly strategic initiatives).
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and coach across all levels of leadership and employees.
  • A sound understanding of employment legislation, industrial instruments and contemporary HR best practices.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused mindset, with a passion for delivering high-impact, strategic HR initiatives.
  • Post graduate qualifications in Human Resources, Psychology, Commerce, or a related field.

Role Requirements:

  1. As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered.
  2. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, as well as background, integrity and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.

Your new Team: HR Business Partnering

Our HR Business Partnering team work closely with the business, as well as with a variety of SME areas within People and Culture, to deliver initiatives and provide advice and support that is highly impactful. Your ability to develop and maintain strong relationships, both with your customer base, and with a number of internal stakeholder groups will be essential. Being able to develop and drive proactive, customised, strategic people initiatives as well as to measure the success of these initiatives, will also be key.
